my temperature sending unit is screwed into my driver's side head right next to the exhaust port. For some reason this doesn't seem like the right place to put it cuz it gets so hot. It was in this spot on the old engine when i bought it. Is this the stock location for the sending unit or does it go somewhere else. This may be why the temperature guage (stock POS) tells me that my engine temp pegs past 260* but my car is never overheated.

Basically between between #1 and #3 is the stock location for the temp gauge sender.

The tip is in the water jacket and it detects coolant temp. Make sure the wire is not burned and touching ground as this will cause it to peg. The sender may also be defective.

Where can you get a new temp sending unit for a digital dash. does anyone have a pic of how the wire connects to the unit. I have the temp sensor and there is a slightly burned wire in my bay. I do not know how to connect the wire to the unit. Can I just solder it?

I don't have a picture but you can purchase replacement connectors at most parts stores. You could solder it but I would not recommend it as it could be damaged by the heat from soldering and you will still need to put in a connector otherwise the wire will look like a telephone cord when you put it in. Senders can be purchased at the dealer or most auto stores. The stock connector sort of slides on sideways to the top of the sender.

Where can I get that little clip that goes on the end of the wire? Mine burned off.

you can TRY pepboys, and MAYBE autozone. if not then u can get it from the dealer

A well stocked peps carrys almost every type of connector used on domestic cars, but be warned they are not OE quality.
