a few questions

My car runs relatively cool, unless I get into traffic. Then even with both of my fans on the temp will slowly creep over 220. I was thinking that my water pump isn't moving enough water..so I thought about getting a stewart pump. Could you guys give me your opinions on these? Also, I noticed that my air dam looks a bit rugged, it has been dragged a lot. It still looks completely in tact, but I figure that a bit of it may just be gone and a new one might help. How tall is the stock air dam? Where have you guys gotten new ones? Thanks!

if it only heats up in traffic then it probably isn't your air dam, it only plays a part at highway speeds. you can get them from any chevy dealer for about $25.00 or so. I have heard good things about the stuart pumps but check product reviews board at the top of the intro page. remember the rotation of the pump changes depending on your belt configuration (V-Belt or serpentine).

It's funny that I posted this now. Today the car actually started heating up really quickly.. it would get to 220 in less then a minute. I had been driving earlier, though. It's way over 100 degrees under the hood without even driving. I ordered a stewart water pump because the one I have is fairly old and I know there's some corrosion inside, best not chance anything. I'll check out the air dam later though. I'd still like to know how tall the stock air dam is so I can compare mine.

Heh I know what an air dam is, thanks. I added water in place of a bit of coolant and the car's been running cooler. I think the water pump will help, but I'm not sure if I can justify spending that $80 on something I don't really need. Too bad I already bought it

i woudlnt sweat it. In traffic the w. pump wont move as much coolant because of the lower speeds of the belt line. running water during those summer months is good b/c it can absorb more heat w/o as much of a temperature change then antifreeze/water mix can. Just add a good corrosion inhibitor. I think they make them.

They're not that much from the dealer, surprisingly. Check this link out, of course, these results are for one for my 87 Iroc. But I imagine all of them are the same from 82-92.....

Oops, well that link just went to their site. Ok, punch in this part number, and see what it costs. Keep in mind this is the part number for an 87 Iroc....
