get this. i switched from a flex fan to a 15 inch electric fan that stays on all the time.i came home and my car overheated. is it possible that the flex fan ran cooler then the electric fan? or maybe taking the load off the engine by switching fans upset my timing? i have a stock radiator from a 79 malibu and a stock water pump and a 160 stat. i also have an iroc turbo hood with the vent holes cut out in the sides and functional cowl. never had a problem with overheating untill now, must be the fan any objections ? thanx

Mechanical fans usually cool better than electric, but they cost horsepower.

well i backed the timing off about 4 degrees to 10 BTDC and it ran alot cooler but when i got on the highway it was sluggish and it wouldnt go higher than 3500 rpms in third ( th 350 ). Does any body know what i should be running for timing, 86 350 carbed no emissions bull s*it and no ac, accel super coil vaccuum advance, no computer. a guy at work ( buick delership ) said set it at 12 BTDC, i had it at 6 with the flex fan on there. any help appreciated
