Switching to dual fan setup

I was wondering how hard it be to switch my 91 v6 firebird over to a dual fan setup. I would like to keep my fan i have now running like normal, and have a toggle for the second switch on those hot summer drives in rush hour traffic. What would be involved, and do you think it would benefit my car?

To switch to dual fans, you'd have to ditch your current fan. I could rattle on telling you all the crap you'd need to convert but, in the end, on a v6, it would hardly be worth the $$, time or effort since you'd most likely be in about the same scenerio you are now.

I run a single fan from a dodge dynasty on my 305 camaro with a Hayden variable temp relay and it does just fine in stop & go traffic . It's been 85-95º here the past couple weeks too.

If you're looking for a cooler temp than stock for some reason, just hook a switch into the exsisting fan you have now so you can control it. I'd wadger the $2 fee would be more worth it than spending $$$ to convert to dual fans just to be disappointed and have a lighter wallet.

Keep in mind, the car will only run as cool temp as what the thermostat is. If you;'re running a stock 195º stat & expecting 180º just by making the fan turn on manually, it's not going to happen.

Most of the info can be found by browsing this site or the links. However, Da Bird is right. When you look at all the crap you will need you will want a plan B. I am a little snowed under at work but I am thinking about building a touch control system for alternate fan control. I have that empty spot for the upshift light. I think it would be neat to have a lens marked aux fan or man fan, something like that and just be able to touch the lens and have it activate a circuit and illuminate the light. If I get the time to do it I'll post it.
