Manual fan switch

OK I found the green wire coming from the fan temperature switch , I know the other end goes to the relay .If I strip the wire and hook solder , another wire to it and hook that wire to a switch and the switch to a ground will this work without anything going wrong with the relay or something else? Will the fan still run like stock if I dont turn the switch on? Also where and how do I get the wire in the passeger compartment and where is a good place to ground the wire and mount the switch. And what kind of wire and switch should I use and where can I buy it and is it a good idea to solder it on the switch and wire ?

I did that. I tapped into that wire, attached new wire, ran that wire through my firewall to the switch. Then put the ground wire on the switch and attached it to a bolt under the dash. My fans still turn on @220 without the switch. All the fan switch does to my knowledge is ground the wire to turn on the fans. When your all done, pull out the switch and ground it, if it still works your fan will still turn on @220.

I like having a manual fan switch, it really comes in handy.

I would go with the tech article Willie wrote. He and I put one in my car and it stays nice and cool here is Arizona. Not to mention, it looks really cool at night with the LED's and all.

This may be a dumb question, but who is the girl in your sig?

It's not dumb at all, thats Aria Giovanni, she is my dream girl

Oh and I Jerry rigged "with style of course " my secondary fan switch until Willie and I can set my fan switches up, the secondary really really keeps the car cooler! When I have it on my temp gets knowhere near 220, that, and my primary fan turns on cooler & I have a 160 degree thermostate

It will look identical to your setup but I will have 4-5 switches & non of them will be lighted, I will have the writing though like on Willie's switches

So when do ya want to kick it dude?

5Sir,

Who is she? An actress or something?

I like the setup I have. Just 4 switches with LED's. I am going to get a 170* stat within the next week or so and do a full cleaning of my cooling system also.

I wont be able to hang with anyone for the next week. My baby is going into the shop to have the rear rebuilt. My pinion bearings went out. Thomas

How's this for a jerry rig:

When I need my second fan to come on (which draws through the tranny cooler) I put a paper clip I keep in the ashtray into the plug for the A/C pressure sensor. Did it yesterday, dropped my tranny temp by 20 degrees.

I have the switches and everything I need to wire it up, I'm just getting sick of tearing apart my console every week.

ROFL!!, that secondary seems to work great when it isn't coming on at 245 degrees anymore now does it

I hear that.

5SIZ is going to install a VCR in his car so he can "admire" his "adult film" star anytime he wants. Just make sure you tint the windows really dark, dude.

Thomas - Didn't you *just* get that rear put in? That sucks.

I edited my chip so my primary comes on at 204 degrees, I never get up to 240.

where could i get a dual fan setup?

I tryed the junkyard and no luck, I just have one right now and the only way to keep my car cool is to have my ac on and that is not good. I want to wire my fan so that i can control it from the inside but it will still turn off when i trun the ignition off. How can i do that?

Thanks for the info. Something to look for the next time I go "shopping". LOL

Syn,
Yeah, thats the rear I got from someone in Sierra Vista. The guy is paying to have it done because he gave me a 120 day warranty on it. Thank *** for that or else I would be out another 400.00. You should finish your fan switchs so you dont have to use a paper clip. I would be worried about shorting something out. Thomas

Well, the paper clip completes the ground portion of the circuit, so even if it did short to the frame, it'd just turn the fan on.

I forgot that it was a grounding circuit. Oh well, you should still get them finished.

mrt89rs,

Checkout the faq/tech articles. I grounded the sensor in the block near #3 cyl. It works great.

On my 90 TPI, the secondary fan relay is right next to the first one, and it does have 1 less wire on it if I remember correctly, for a total of 4.
