Thirdgen converts way overpriced?

Noticed the last few years around here people want 10k and up for a decent Iroc convert. Some ok ones are going for 7-8ish. Seems far fetched because your in C4 corvette convertible territory with those prices. Maybe its just these Canadian cars? what is the going rate in the states?

verts are fairly hard to come by and depending on condition and the amount they have had to put into them to make them nice i think can justify the price (atleast for me since i was looking specifically for a 91-92 Z28 or 90 IROC). convertible parts are almost non existant, and when you do find them they are pretty pricey themselves. after owning a chopper i will never consider anything for these cars expencive. turn signals are $200 on my chopper just for the fronts, where as i can buy a trunk lid for the car for $250. just seems like i get more for my money.

when i was looking for a vert i thought much like you in that the nice ones were way over priced. i got hugely lucky (or atleast i feel that way) when i found the one i recently bought. drove 400 miles to get it and drove it home. 100897 miles and with the exception of the rims is 100% original and stock. body and undercarriage are near perfect and the only major imperfection is some water spot faded paint and a slight rip in the drives side leather. i paid $5250 for it and given how long i've chased and dreamed of this car worth every penny....

I gave $7400 for my vert but it only had 37k on the clock and is a Marlboro sweepstakes car. I wasn't sure I wanted a vert but now I'll never NOT own one!

I had been looking for a black vert since 1990 and I bought a black 89 350 t-top Iroc instead in 91. I wanted a black one and finally bought one three years ago and paid 6 for it. The verts are hard to find but like Da Spudro said they are wanting corvette money for them which is not realistic.

I have two 'verts, the prices are OK with me and I'd be happy if they kept climbing. Scope out earlier collectible cars and compare hardtop versus convertible prices. Glad to see the third gens stepping up. It's the old supply and demand thing.

One ongoing trend with all the posted verts here is that they are all automatics. The sticks are a little harder to find and both cars being equal, will fetch even a few $$$ more.

I live in Florida and picked my 92 RS Vert for $1000. Yes, I did steal it! BUT since then I have poured about $5K into it and it can almost be classified as a decent car. Certainly not in the awesome category but before i am satisfied it will be. IF i ever sell it the minimum I would entertain would be $7500 because that would be my right around my break even number. None of the money listed includes ANY labor as i do it all myself

I recently picked up an 87 iroc vert for $7700. 67k original miles. Everything seems to be in order except I had to do a new clutch. I was looking at 67 chevelle converibles but they were like $25k so I felt like the $ to fun ratio on 3rd gen convertible for under $10k was good and I don't think they'll be getting any cheaper.

I agree, I love chevelles but I like my 60s cars hardtops except for the mid 60s vette. The 67 corvette with the stinger hood and our cars are the best looking verts imho. The driveability of our cars is better also. I like the 98-02 trans ams but when you raise the hood there is no room at all and if you like to work on them and modify them that takes a lot away from them. I have had a 66 ss chevelle 396, a 69 camaro and I still have two 81 Z28s that I am threatening to restore after I get through with my vert. A 67 vette vert with a 427 is my 60s dream car and was the first car I ever drove when I was 5. I even shifted it from 1st to 2nd. My father had a 67 435 horse sunfire yellow vert with a white top and int. I got to learn to drive a stick on a mid seventies motion monza with a 265 and 12 bolt rear with 410s. My father raced a 1972 455 HO trans am in it and beat it when I was 11. What was the first car you guys ever drove?

I picked up a 91 rs convertable for $5400 it is in excellent condition all original with 47000 miles from the original owner. I was not sure what they go for but I think I got a great deal considering how hard it is to find one this well taken care of. It runs and drives almost like a new car!

My requirements for this car was a fun a 8cyl car that wasn't going to go down in value, but had back seats for the kids. After looking at all the options, I came down to a 67 Chevelle, an 84 El Dorado or the 87 or 88 Iroc. As I graduated High School in 88, the 87 and 88 were sentimental to me and the cost factor weighed heavily on the decision. The under 10k price for the Iroc was a big selling point for me and I feel like the rarity of the manual IROC convertible makes it a good candidate for further gains in value, but I don't look at it as an investment at all, just a fun car that wont ever be worth less than what I paid for it so long as I maintain it.
My wife wanted me to get a 5 year old BMW 3-series convertible for $25k but that'd lose more in depreciation in 2 years than the entire cost of the IROC and it would be just another used BMW.
My 1st car was a 1974 Porsche 914 that I got when I was 16 in 1986. It was a great 1st car. Not powerful or fast, but fun and had a good CDI (chicks dig it) factor.
Then I had a 79 280ZX and then a 64 Deluxe micro bus and after that a 62 Chrysler Newport.

I gave $6500 out the door for my 88 iroc back in 1995. I saw this car and just HAD to have it. Mine's black with tan interior and gold stripes. It's been sitting a long time now, but I hope to get it to my house (it's at my parents place now....1300 miles away) in the next couple of months. I also found an 88 l98 trans am that I'm going to kill for parts for the convertible.
