Convertible structure

I am wondering what the difference is on the body structure from a t top/hard top vs. A convertible. I want to get a set of headers for my vert and I am liking the OBX long tubes on eBay but they say there not made for verts cause of the difference in structure. Can someone explain? Every time I want to get something for this car I always run into a dead end to the point where I want to sell this damn thing

Coming from the mustang world I am finding out that parts are Hard to find for these verts. I like the looks of these camaros and the rarity of the verts.

I havent gone under the car to compare the differeces between coupe and convertible but I do know around the inner wheel wells at the bottom I could see extra metal that was welded to strengthen the unibody. Now that being said since the convertibles used t top cars for the transformation perhaps this reinforcement was added at that time for the t tops and not strictly for the convertibles.
The extra reinforcement is probably whats hindering you from installing the headers you want but Im sure there are other manufacturers that have compensated for this.

I am aware of a couple of reinforcements that ASC added to strengthen the chassis. One is hidden from view and not effecting your choice of headers It is a sheet metal piece that is welded to the car below the plastic door sil. The second one is more substantial. It is a formed heavy gauge sheet metal box structure that was riveted below the car just behind the lower ground effects. In fact the GFX had to be trimmed to allow for this piece. It ia also why the front fenders are unique to the convertible (sheet metal tab welded to the fender to allow it to attach to the reinforcement piece). This heavy gauge formed sheet metal boxed structure is most likely what prevents you from using those headers. It also prevents you from installing most brands of subframe connectors that are perimiter mounted (attached just behind the pinch rail).

well do you guys have any pics of a convertible underside, t-top underside, hard top underside? i would go and look under my vert now but its 20 miles from my house getting paint work done at the moment.

how do i tell if my car is a asc conversion?

so i assume that every convertible is a asc conversion? i never looked for a sticker in the jam, and according to your pics mine looks like it operates like yours.

than yours is most likely an ASC. there were other companies that did them but ASC is the only that operates this way and ASC did more conversions than anyone else
