New 84 z28 member, what do I have here?
Hey guys I'm new here just bought a 84 z28 was researching it.
Wondering about my convertible I understand it wouldn't have been factory but wad wondering which aftermarket company mine came from it has more of a roadster style with the big bar behind the seats and has a custom stereo very nicely where the back seat could have been. Inside the trunk is very spacious for these cars here's some pics what y'all think its manual but was wondering if maybe was a motor before, they's a button on my dash that says up, what else could 'up' mean
And there is no plate in the door jamb with with convertible info
Thanks,
nic

I might be able to get you real close. Please take a photo of the rear seat area without the fabric tonneau cover so I can see the tops of the interior rear side walls. Also, take a photo or two with the top up from the outside.

Sorry took so long to update, the engine is a edelbrock performer crate motor, pretty much straight out the catalog, I'll update some top up pics tomorrow,
And the taillight is a little too bright, in not feeling the yellow lines, I was thinking smooth dark tinted covers would be a nice upgrade, anyone else did this?

A big plate that has the letters g-71 sits under my tonneau at the bottom of the area where my top hides, that's the only numbers anywhere, nothing above the windshield except the two spots the bolts go in to close the top

It looks a lot like a Matrix 3 to me but the backseat/under the tonneau throw me. Perhaps much of that was modified as the bar was put in. I couldn't really see what I was looking at in your pictures.
The latch holes above the windshield, top (especially the part right behind the door with velcro, if yours has it, and from the top view), trunk lid and lines (not perfect), and boot look an awful lot like mine (M3). Mine also has the frame supports. Are they basically straight rectangle tubes down each side?
In mine there is a hydraulic motor behind the back seat behind a flap. Look at the top frame (the part that sits flat) right behind the doors. Are there a pins there? They should attach to hydraulic cylinders that attach down in the fender well behind the doors. Also, is the switch that you mention doesn't work located beneath the cigarette lighter? Mine has had all kinds of trouble with the relays for the top. Maybe someone just said forget it and decided to disconnect the cylinders push the top up and down. If it is a M3 there should be wiring/relays against the firewall near the brake booster. If you take a picture of your top from the inside I would be able to tell if it looks like mine based on the frame and the top. Another giveaway would be the tool for the top, if it still has it. It is hard to describe but it is a chome wrench about 4-5" long with an offset.

I really like your car! The roll bar, wheels, seats, steering wheel etc...Its got a nice, sporty look to it.
