Any convertibles that you missed the chance to buy and now regret?

Thinking about my car and my project car and how much I love them both but then thought about the ones that got away. I have always wanted a convertible TA since I first saw one in high school. In those days it was the autoform I think. 2 seater.
about 6 yrs ago a guy had a black 91 or 92 firebird vert that had a little fender damage but the rest of the car looked great, wanted $1800 and I passed.
Then I was in the market for a T A about 5 yrs ago and passed a 92 yellow TA vert that was in perfect cond. For $10k and bought a 01 SOM WS6 ttop instead.
Last I missed out on a 92 jadegray TA vert that had high mileage but still was a good car but I snoozed and waited for something better. I now own a blue 92 vert that I love and made room for a black 92 TA vert project and got a complete 92 firebird vert for parts if I need them. Want to hear about the ones that got away from you guys.

This one was sitting in the upholstery shop that installed my new convertible top, had a 355 installed in it, needed some work obviously but I had the chance to get it DIRT CHEAP. I kick myself to this day for not pulling the trigger.

Re: Any convertibles that you missed the chance to buy and now regret?

I passed up a 92 GTA vert for $800.oo five years ago. Was a beautiful car that just needed a new trans. I had just spent 12k building my 427 for the RS and couldnt justify spending any more at the time (Empty pockets!) Ah, what might've been....

If it was such an easy fix you could have bought the car, had the trans fixed for $1000, Sold the car for a profit... umm... you missed a good one IMHO

BTW it was not a GTA, only Trans Am and Base Verts in 1991 & 1992..

I had about $6.oo in my wallet at the time. Someone else bought it a few minutes later. P/O mustve stuck the emblems and spoiler on there. LOL, I wouldve never sold that car. Was Black with a tan leather interior... I think about that car all the time.

I missed out on a blue 89 iroc years ago because I had 3 payments left on my black 89 350 t-top iroc. I ended up with a black on black 92 z with zero rust of which I rubberized undercoated everything when I pulled all the interior out.

Theres only been 2 fbodys I regret not buying. The first was a Blue '92 5-speed Z28 convertible. It had minor rust but was real cheap. The other was a Notchback GTA that was a motor. Also real cheap.

Re: Any convertibles that you missed the chance to buy and now regret?

Interesting Topic. Around 2003 I saw my first convertible 3rd Gen TA setting on a "we finance anyone" lot. It was Jamaica Yellow and I fell in love. I begged my wife to let me buy it, but would have to sell my other bird to get it. This car set on the lot for about 7 months until one day it was gone.

I must have looked at this car 20 times, but it was not in the cards for me.....now the rest of the story. 2 years later my wife agrees to let me purchase another TA and I find yet another Jamaica Yellow Convertible TA for sale about 100 miles from my home. As it turns out it was the exact same car I had pined over two years eariler....needlees to say it did not get away.

The story goes on....the car was one step away from going to the junk year. I replace nearly every thing you could touch, including a new Jasper Engine, paint, top, etc. In 2010 the car won it's class at the TA Nationals...a proud moment

Now the final chapter, I have decided to sale my beloved Jamaica Yellow TA, to make room for another car. It's hard to sale and sad, but life changes and so do the cars we love and own....it's been a great ride Yella Fever...thanks old girl.

Re: Any convertibles that you missed the chance to buy and now regret?

Last year I missed out on a Red '88 IROC 5 speed Vert for $2,000. Didnt need much besides paint and some minor things.

Now I may be getting the '92 Z28 5 Speed vert for sale in the classified section in AZ. It will cost nearly that $2k by the time I buy it and get it to me and needs A LOT of work... but you dont find them cheap often, especially 5 speed.
