It has serpentine drive, all 87s have a flat belt for alt and v belts for the rest, not what you see there.

I feel left out not having a dash serial number plaque however my 89 vert is a 3 vin..cant complai too much...other than having an 88 top "factory" and an 89 release handle trim repro piece that doesnt come close to fitting right as is.need to shorten the sides and dremel down where the handles go

Re: 87 vert 6th digit is a 2 ?

Hi, I just bought an 87 IROC convertible. It was built with Gray leather deluxe interior. But some knucklehead had the idea of trying to make a triple black car so the interior is toast and mostly the wrong color and wrong parts. So far I'm not finding a lot of photos of the inside of these cars. What interior do you have? Would I be able to impose on you for some help with how to re-build this interior? Thanks.

This is what the grey leather interior of an 87 looked like.

Re: 87 vert 6th digit is a 2 ?

Thanks Scott. That helps a ton. Are those the AR9 "European style" seats do you know? I have not yet been able to figure if AR9s are different than the normal seats. One guy said he thought maybe AR9s were one piece tall back seats. Anybody Know? The seller says my front seats are from a Vette. Yecht!

Re: 87 vert 6th digit is a 2 ?

FYI. I just found another 1987 IROC convertible for sale. It's a VIN 2 car with all the correct ASC stickers and dash plate. I think he said ti was ASC Special Edition number 239. It is a 305 with a 700r possibly with G92 and with Gray cloth interior. AND IT'S BLUE! It seems to be super hard to find a blue one. The guy wants $5500 for it and it was just freshly painted.

I found the answer to my own question. There are two 87's on Ebay right now with photos of RPO stickers indicating AR9 seats and the seats in both cars are the standard seats with adjustable head rests just like every other 3rd gen seat I've ever seen. Does anybody know if there was more then one seat style?

Re: 87 vert 6th digit is a 2 ?

There was 4 or more, depending on the year and if you want to include multiple years in your question.

From 1987-1992 is probably the easiest to explain.
There was the High back buckets, only in the Camaro,
The Firebird base seats had the separate headrest, the seat bottom was without the crease
The Firebird (and I think Camaro) Custom seats had the headrest and the crease in teh set bottoms like the ones in Scotts car.
Firebird Ultima "GTA" seats.

I am not sure about Camaros, but that is what I have seen.

Well, I've got to find the definitive answers to this question. So I'll be researching it and post my findings. I know there are many different stitching patterns in the IROCs from year to year. But I'm wondering if the frames/cores had more than one option. You mentioned "high back" seats which I assume are different than the most common seat with the adjustable headrest like seen in Scott's and most others I've seen.

Re: 87 vert 6th digit is a 2 ?

The former owner tells me the interior of this car was a "two-tone" sort of. He insists that the carpet on the sides of the console was black but the floor carpet was gray. He also says the door panels were half gray leather and half gray carpet (like Scotts) but that the door pulls/armrests were black. Anybody ever seen a two-tone? I've seen a red one like this but I've not yet seen a black car with gray interior that is two-tone.

Sorry. This thread started out primarily about convertible VINS. Should I move my questions over to the interior message board?
