How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
How many of you would let your 16 year old daughter drive the vert.
Her first time out was a blast driving the 90 vert . She would have liked to try the 88 vert 5 speed (I dont think she is quite ready for that one yet but soon) and besides her Moms out cruisin in the 88 vert (loves the 5 speed)

No one drives my vert. Not now, not when its fixed up. As it stands, folks are just lucky I don't jam them in the back seat.

I let my 16 year old son drive my first gen vert four months after he got his license. He was following me to a car show 20 miles from home. I still remember seeing the grin on his face in my rear view mirror.

No, I wouldn't let my teen daughter drive anything besides the beater I buy for her. Trust me, I see first hand every day how terrible teen drivers are, and teen girls are ALOT worse than boys. Total disregard of the well being of the car, and other peoples cars.

My kid's will be allowed to drive everything when they have their licences. Even the players car! That one will be the most fun, as It will be on the track, as no racing on the street! ( I catch them once, back to the bicycle!) Have 9 more years to wait though.

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
My 22 year old son came home this weekend test driving his Mom's new 88 IROC. It was not that big of a deal since he has driven my 92 and 86 Camaro's. I know he has always wanted a vert. He did ask could he take the vert back to college for a couple of weeks.

Although I'm only 18 at the moment, when time comes I don't think I'll even let my girlfriend/wife drive my 91 T/A vert, let alone a teenage girl lol. I gotta agree with BigBadGTA.

My son, in the mid 80s, tore up the central coast in our 68 Grand prix and 73 F250 with a 428 in it.
Of course he waited until he was about 25 to tell me.

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
LOL i let my fiance drive my camaro I about freaking had a heart attack. When the daughter grows up idk men. :P i fixed the problem of her driving it by going manual. I highly doubt when i completely restored it that the driver seat will ever have anyone else butt indention but my own. I think to us its our little baby. Our prestine car that we always wanted. I know it is to me Kami my camaro is not the best looking out there but I still love driving her. Now if i bought a vert eh It wouldn't be much of a sentimental value than my camaro hard top. For the fact is :P when my daughter turns 16 I told her if she keeps getting good grades >< i will be buying her one. One thing though. It will be maintained by me no one else and god sake. No one else like her friends better be driving it. We put to much money in these old cars to have someone destroy it in seconds. i know I am barely restored and i dropped 4grand in mine so far.

LOL! Good eye! Yeah - she's aware of it... She thinks that one day I will fold and let her drive but we all know that is not going to happen!

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
I'd be disappointed if my daughter didn't want to drive mine.
When me & her mom were dating, but living together, she'd be leaving & I'd here MY 92 305/T5 Camaro start up & leave, not her truck. Her mom SOOOOO enjoyed my Camaro over her own truck, that she "stole" it every chance she got.
She ended up selling her truck & getting a 90 305/T5 Camaro RS. Then she started modding it!

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
I allowed both of my daughters to drive my 91 TA when they turned 16 without incident. My oldest, could never figure out the 5 speed so I could throw her the keys knowing the car would not leave the driveway (she is now 33 and still cannot figure it out).
The younger daughter picked it up right away and loves to drive the manual. Now 30, her own car is a manual and she has her name scratched into the underside of the TA so she can claim it when I kick the bucket. I know she will treat it as well as she has her own car and hers is a '99 with about 180K on it.
When she was 16 I let her drive the vert to the beach with a friend. I was pulling a boat with another vehicle and she was following. It was a nice sunny, early spring day in south GA so the top had to be down. Both she and her friend got sunburned - but only on their right sides that were facing the sun on the trip south. Do you know how stupid you look with half of you white as paste and the other side bright red? Well, they did look pretty stupid and spent the week trying to even up the "tan".

From last weekend.....
Only 8yrs old & I'm already catching her behind the wheel of my GTA! (she's not short at all, just slouching down trying to avoid the camera)

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
i dont know...
i got into plenty of close calls in my "big slow and safe" 84 caprice with a 3.8 v6 when i was 16.
regardless of how responsible you are and how innocent your intentions, 16 year olds fundamentally lack experience and a clear head.
what happens if a tire pops and they jerk the wheel and roll the car.
now you have a totalled vert, and more importantly a likely seriously injured 16yo daughter.
im not a worrywort, but IMO, a convertable is no car for a learning driver.
maybe i'd let them drive my hardtop, or whatever, but still, i'd have to think about it.
a beginner driver shouldnt be driving anything other than what they have the most experience on, which should be a medium sized car with just barely enough power to do 80 mph downhill...

Re: How many of you would let your daughter drive your vert
When I was a kid my dad kept his cars seperate from me. It was pretty clear I'd never drive it, even with him in the passenger seat.
That being said I let my dad drive my camar a couple times, but we don't ever do projects together.
I'd let my kid drive my car, supervised for the first few times.
