87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
check this out I think less than 15 1987 z28 convertibles known to exist , the rest are IROCs and SC ,
this one seems authentic to me from badges and Vin , who ever buys it is a very lucky guy

110k with a $10k starting bid and there is still a reserve seems kinda hopeful in this economy for a repainted car. I wonder what the seats look like since no one bothered to take a picture of them. BTW what the deal with the hat on the shifter.

also in the ever-crappy pics, i can't seem to locate the spoiler extensions on the doors. those were 87 and very very early 88 only. very rare and hard to find today, and if that car doesn't have them and should have, then that's a decrease in value IMO.

Nice ride but $10k is just a little too steep for my pocket!
I wonder if this guy ever heard of kbb.com??

Value is defined as what someone is willing to pay for the car, not what Kelley Blue Book says.
I don't think $10k is out of line at all for this car. It might be top dollar instead of a starting bid, but it's not out of line.

very cool car--being a 305 TPI 5 speed and that colour scheme....never see another like it.

Re: 87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
the price might seem on the high end but the future value of such car makes it a good investment, am not sure the exact number of 1987 z28 verts but i think may be Willie or Okfoz have an idea.
as for fog lights i think they were standard on the IROC z28 and optional on the z28.

I can't stand the color scheme, especially with the stripe package that is has. With the tan top, it looks like a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich.

Re: 87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
i have no idea the number of just z28 converts, but seeing as only 744 total converts. were made in 87, that in its self makes this a very rare car. I think 10K is still steep for a 110K miles 22 YO car though.

Car: 1987 Iroc-z Convertible
Re: 87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
the 744 is Iroc's there was 1042 total so that means that less than 300 were SC's or Z28's. most are missing stuff my 87 was missing the map pocket and had a crap Maaco job. at least most of th ework is done on that one I guess biggest problem is the flaws it is too hard to find parts for the 87 and early 88's. not many 5 speeds either but as many miles as it has he may as well did the same thing I am RESTOMOD. after they are past 90000 miles (and this pertains to most cars) they are not worth as much. A friend of mine is a dealer that deals with some collectables (he has a 72 Rolls Royce, 41 Studebaker and 66 Ford Fairlane down there now.) I am looking around for a stock Gen VI 454 to go in mine now. I want it to have a stock appearence but not stock attitude to it.

Re: 87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
Your information is flawed. There were 744 Z28 convertibles in 1987. Remember, the IROC-Z was an option package on the Z28 from 85-87. There were 263 sport coupe/LT convertibles. The cost of a convertible when new made perfect sense to get the Z28 with the IROC-Z package also. Most of the 744 were IROC-Zs but no records were kept for option combinations. I would also say that the color of this car, the 5-speed with TPI and whatever else may honestly make this a one of only a couple produced. The fog lights were only available on the Z28 with option package 3. This car obviously is optioned with package 1 or 2 only.
One last note. As these cars get older, the mileage won't be so much an issue if the car is in exceptionally clean condition. Even if a complete restoration is done, the mileage won't play against him as the car is rare and he knows it. It does need to be exceptionally clean and well maintained though.

Re: 87 z28 vert on Ebay a true collector
Admittedly the 1987 production numbers are flawed at best... The 744 number has been used for both just Z28's & IROC-Z's (White Book) and the 744 number has been used for all models (just about every other publication) ... Considering how much is messed up with the 1987 information there may be any number made.
I think all said and done I would prefer one of the 4 IROC-Z 350 Convertibles in 1987... y'know the ones that were not "Official" But identical to the factory convertibles but were not factory convertibles because of a pesky number in the VIN.
