how bad should it be?
As I continue to restore this 92 firebird vert. I get frustrated at the quality of the ride. When I first got it. It was so scary to drive. I have toned it down replacing the ball joints, new idler arm, new struts (monroe) new rear shocks. The ride was very bumpy. The rear stock wheel had a chunk out of the metal. so I got new rims, new tires. I have not had it aligned yet waiting for a few more upgrades.
The car continues to ride bumpy almost like a bouncy feeling to it. I also have a 95 Camaro coupe so I am use to a bumpy ride or feeling everything because my daily driver the 95 is so very tight.
Is this normal. Am I looking for gremlins that don't exists? Is this 92 vert ride that bad that it would seem unsafe? Could this he the springs? IT seem to bounce as slow as 5 mph. I had a shop check out the tie rod ends both inner and outer and they are fine. what effects do older springs have?
Thanks

I hear ya brother. Where I live the roads are God awful for the most part but a smooth peice of highway is where I love to drive it. I spent a lot of coin on the suspension inlcuding new shocks and struts on all corners, sub-frame connectors, energy suspension bushings, wheels and tires, wonder bar, and it's still not over. I figure I need an idler arm eventually and then maybe even a new steering box. Who knows?
With 185K miles on the chasis I gues I should plan on replacing or servicing everything in the suspension sooner or later.
Keep the faith!

Re: how bad should it be?
So have you driven it since installing the new struts and shocks? Kinda hard to tell based on your post.
The 92 cars should be the most stable out of all the 3rd gen verts, since they are glued and welded together.
My 88 was scary to drive, even after all the work to it. Ended up being a bad rag joint. Once I got that replaced, the steering was nice and tight and the handling was what I would expect with eibach springs and KYB Struts/shocks.
Now I just need some WS6 sway bars and steering box!

Re: how bad should it be?
Yes I have driven it.
for example, last night I moved it about 40 feet and I could feel it move up and down as if the wheel was oval. Hard to explain. Since the wheels are brand new with like 20 miles on them. I don't think this is the case.
thanks

Mine is a 92, and it drives real nice.
Ride is firm, but feel completely in control.
When I purchased car it was a little scary, would hit a bump and would have to guess where it was going to land, but replaced Shocks/Struts, end links on all four corners and tires and now if feels great.

Re: how bad should it be?
put it up in on 4 jackstands, under the axle and a-arms.
Spin each wheels to ensure it isn't a bent spindle, axle or even a broken belt from the install
trust me, I've experienced all 3, two on the same car at the same time.
Frustrating chasing your tail like that too

Re: how bad should it be?
The body flex is something I'm definately noticing on my 91 TA compared to the 92 Camaro. This is the ONLY convertible car I've ever really noticed it on. It feels like I should see it twisting sometimes. Subframe Connectors are definately on my shopping list this year.
