No, no, not really, yes.
1) Pontiac did not offer a Firebird convertible until 1991 & 1992. However The Camaro was offered as a camaro from 1987 thru 1992. Also consider that GM did not make a single 3rd gen F-body convertible either... All convertible 3rd gens were outsourced. The Car you have there I am assuming that it was converted by ASC, this is the exact same company and facility that converted all of the Camaro Convertibles. ASC to my knowledge only converted new cars, that were direct from the factory. You would order any T-top Firebird, and have it drop shipped to ASC to have it converted, then ASC would ship it to the participating dealership.
THe GTA was STANDARD with a 350, there was a credit option for a 305, you could get an Automatic OR Manual trans on the GTA. Since the 350 was not available with T-tops on the firebird until 1989, and if someone did not want a manual transmission then thats what you have here.
No way to tell if it was a GTA or Trans Am from the Vin...
So in a manner of speaking Pontiac did not offer in their standard lineup a convertible Firebird, BUT the only way to get one was new from a dealership.
