If it were me, I would hold out for a V8. They are still out there for reasonable prices. I think you will ultimately be dissappointed with a 6cyl. Good luck!

Why start out with a V6? Not only will you have to swap motors to get what you're looking for, you also get the lesser suspension with a V6. Ultimately, the Z28's and T/A's have the best suspension stock, so you would want one of those, but the RS V8's aren't too shabby either. Bigger sway bars and new shocks and struts would make them perform just about as good.

92vert is correct,
Collectability of a v6 car really is low, a V8 car is ultimately better. Unfortunately there were not a whole lot of these cars made to start with, so with that in mind its kind of a toss up.
The minuses with this car
1) its a V6
2) $4500 is not unfair for a Convertible, if it had the LO3, then I would think its more reasonable.
The Neutrals
1) 76,000 miles
The Plus'
1) It is a Convertible
2) It looks pretty good in the pix
3) Insurance would be low being a V6 car
If you installed a V8 its hard to tell whether or not it would ultimate hurt the value.

Definatly hurt the value of the car. The way I see it is if you swap motors in a vert you're bringing it down to the value of a coupe or t top car. It's just not the same with a different motor. All original > modified when it comes to collectibility value. On the track it's another story though.

he e-mailed me and said this
The carfax report that was run when I purchased the car a year a go stated
it was only in one accident. It showed only $1800 worth of damage so, it was
not major.
The interior driver seat has a small hole in on the left side of the seat.
It can be sewed shut very easily by an upholsterer. No cigarette burns or
anything like that. You can tell the vehicle has spent a lot of time in
storage because the interior has been well preserved.
The convertible top is in great shape. The seam on the driver's side needs
to be re-sewn. It looks like the thread came lose. It's only about one inch
long though. The rest of the top is in very good shape. The top is only
about two years old.
Please see the attached pics that I took with the car in the garage a few
weeks a go.
The car has had three owners since 1991.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Frank
how much damage can be done for $1800?

Damage fixed correctly is nothing to be afraid of. If you know where the damage was done then when you look at the car look at that area, look inside the fender, etc and see how it was repaired.

I don't know that I'd pay that much for an RS. But that's just me...

Keep looking. I think my 305 TPI is underpowered ... I couldn't imagine a 3.1L V6. I had one of those in my '92 Lumina and it SUCKED. The Camaro vert is much heavier than my Lumina was.

Dont settle for a camaro with a 6cyl. Theres plenty of nice v-8 converts out there!
