question about convertible suspension

Ok so I know that we have to have specific subframe connectors, but what else is convertible specific, suspension-wise?

I just picked up a barely used set of KYB gas shocks and struts, and the guy also has a set of Drop Zone lowering springs that are 1" and 1.5" rear. Will they work for coupes AND verts?

Thanks guys

I have read that the rear wheel well has been chopped off at the top in order for the convertible top to sit flush. If you still have the hard top you can compare the tops of the inside wheel wells.

A vert may not be able to be lowered as much as a coupe because the top of the rear tire may hit the wheel well.

Again, I don't know if this is true. I think I remember reading this.

im about 90% sure youre correct on the wheel wells, i found that out when i put the 18s in the back.. very very close to rubbing where they cut the top of the wheel well off, when i autocross..

Yep, wheel well is different. I'd run a slightly stiffer rear spring if you plan on lowering. I've had some contact with the stock springs but I dont know what sort of bump as it was the previous owner that had contact.

So would a Drop Zone set of springs work? 1.5" rear and 1" front. Or should I stick with the Eibach Pro Kit. What kits do you all have?

I have drop zones in the rs and sportlines in the z, neither rub. Drop zones lowered the rs a little more, however the iroc rides better.

You know what I noticed when i was dinking around the engine is that there is some bracing around the engine compartment.
Like one from under the strut to the front part of the frame, some tiny bar from the fender to the hood louvers by the firewall. So far those are the only two I found.
I'll be looking for more...
I hope that helps?!?!

I dont think there is much besides the SFC's. I havent heard about the wheel well thing. The inner plastic fender inserts dont look different. I've never noticed.

If you have spohn or perimeter sfc's, the drop wont be a problem. Now, if you have MAC like I do, it will be.

I have prokit. Its a double-edged sword. These are so damn stiff. Poor quality ride, but excellent handling. With Koni reds, each pothole is a land mine. My car is ultra-stiff. See my sig.

As far as what pieces from the factory as far as chassis are vert specific; well there are two triangular braces that bolt to the front subframe and the k-member. I heard about this a while back and checked.......I didnt have any. So I found an old vert in a salvage yard and, well.....

Other than that, the rocker reinforcement of course and there is sme reinforcement behind the rear seats.

The only difference in the 4th gen vert was extra bracing along the front and rear subframes and the cross brace behind the tranny mouth.

i had dropzones on my 91 vert with 20's. if my frame wasnt tweaked i would have kept the setup, i did rub the top of the wheel wells here and there.

ill see if i can dig up a pic.

they were 255/35/20's all 4. they fit perfect inside the wheel wells. if i ever get the car fixed up i'll prob buy close to the same wheels for it again and lower it again. i sold the wheels and the dropzones.

my buddy still charged me though but all together it was only around $400 for the top and the cash I gave him. a place in Findlay is real good too.

my glue didnt hold very well, and right behind the side windows was always way too tight. i have a vinyl top cause i was doing it myself and didnt want to waste a stayfast top on my 1st try. im sure i've missed little things here and there, its been a while since i did it and its just been sittin. i want to take it somehwere and have them start over with it and replace anything thats missing, i realized i need new flip rods, i never knew what the one broken part was on my top til i read the one sticky in the vert section.

alright i'm done hijacking this post with convertible top stuff, sorry.
