friggin cats

hey guys stupid question, but i live in a neighborhood with lots of outside cats and my garage isnt big enough to park in, so the cats around here keep crawling on the top of my car and scratching my t-tops. i was thinking a cover, but i was wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this, and what did you do?

thanks for your time

The old "cats-are-wrecking-my-car" problem, eh? I used to hate the fact that I'd see paw prints on my car the morning after I washed it. You could do a couple things. I always sprayed a little ammonia in the general vicinity of the vehicle. Cats can't stand the smell.

My parents came home with a neat little toy the other day, a can of cat repellant. All it is is a can of compressed air, and the top of it has a battery operated motion sensor. When a cat gets near it, it releases a quick and sudden "hiss" of compressed air. This is usually enough to scare them off, and it will keep "hissing" whenever a cat comes near. May be worth a shot, and I believe it's inexpensive.

Hope that helps.

I get the same problem when I leave my windows open at my friend's house sometimes. Once I opened my door when I left my windows down and two cats came out...put a terrible image in my mind and now I dont leave my windows open at my friend's house anymore

A neighbor's cat loved sleeping on my convertible roof. Luckily they moved and took their cat.
See if the owner will move and take their cat.

Just hope none of them get locked inside your car (like it gets in with your tops off and then you put the tops on with the cat inside). My dad had the back of his '56 Nomad open one day while he was waxing it and he shut the neighbor's cat inside. It destroyed his interior!!!!!!! On a '56 Nomad!!!!!!

Damn Cats!!

BTW, not to be a "forum ****", but what does this have to do with verts?

LOL! Paintball gun, Don't hit them with it, You might kill them. Just pop a few in their direction. My neighbor's cats keep spraying my rims, I hide in the kitchen with the window open a crack. When one comes around and starts sniffing, Spins around and starts to lift his tail I just put a few ***** in his vicinity. 3 or 4 times and they learn! Squirels fear me, All I have to do is walk out on the back deck with the paintball gun and they run. Right now I have a doe and two newborn fawns bedding down in my back yard. I have tried to accomadate them as they are cute and all the neighbors love them. Twice now I have had to open up on a bear trying to kill the fawns. I know I shouldn't screw with the balance of nature but those little guys are only the size of a big cat/ small dog. I only hope the bear doesn't hold a grudge. Live and let live!!!!!!

I work in an area where there was a threat of stray cats for a time, My convertible was left with window/s open due to heat and sadly, food left when I got to work at the start of shift (2nd, 3:30PM), Cats found their way into my car and tried to get my food in at least two cases! Part of this due to my broken rear window!!! UGH

Are you talking about shooting at the bear with a paintball gun? That sounds like suicide. I know that paintballs only travel effectively about 40-60 yards, and that's closer than I'd like to be to a bear that I'm getting ready to **** off real good.

Don't worry, I have "back-up" and this bear isn't that big or smart. He is however a nuisance. Up untill Last year we had a bear around here that was really scaring the crap out of people. We started having bear hunts here in Jersey for the first time in 30 years and that bear was taken last year here in the township limits. 675 lbs.! The biggest bear ever in NJ, Big enough to have been a Pennsylvania state record, And they have a hunt every year. That bear was destructive and quite a bit aggresive. No one on my street has bird feeders anymore, We all have to bear proof our garbage. I have 3 sets of motion sensors around the house as I get home after dark. Getting out of the car after dark and finding the bear on the deck with a bag of garbage- PRICELESS!

Get a humane animal trap around your car, catch them, then take the owner's to court for a roaming animal. Of course that is if you're a jerk.

why bother.
Where I live there are dogs/cats always roaming. No collars, no tags. No rabbies shots or anything. I have called animal control and the cops, they did nothing.

When I got a paint ball gun and started shooting frozen paint ***** and their black dogs turned all pastel the owners got mad called the cops on me. Cops showed up. I said I was only shooting them when they were on my property and went through the whole thing... nothing was done either way. So I keep shooting them whenever I see them.

3 good rapid shots and a scream of yelps... music to the ears.

And hitting a normal paint ball to a cat won't kill it... hurt like hell but wont kill. Peg the little bastards any chance you get. The only way they learn is by hitting them, not scaring them. And besides why waste a good paint ball... give black and white fluffy a new orange spot

Like someone posted before, paintballs work well.. My friend has been playing cat hunter for a couple weeks to keep the cats away as he always leaves his t-tops off. About 2 weeks ago, a cat jumped in and had 4 kittens right on his drivers seat! That was a nice mess.. I think he cleaned it like 3 times before he was comfortable sitting in it again!

Now would be a great time to flush your radiator!! Whatever you put the fluid in, leave it out by the car and because it's sweet, the kitties will drink it... That will solve your problem, and you have flushed your radiator.

It worked for me! Stray cats and dogs... haven't seen them since

Oh yeah, it works on birds pooping on your car too.

But you risk hitting your car. With my method... no harm done to car.

Also, I live in the country kinda... not like "no mans land" ... but close to it This also works on racoons, mice, rats, bugs, you name it, it's gone!

I dont think I would ever be comfortable ever sitting in that seat again, and there would be many dead cats

REAL SOLUTION to CAT Problem.

N O B O D Y Hates cats as much as I do...

I wouldnot dream of actually doing them harm b/c you can get in REAL trouble for that...

I use an Ultrasonic Pest Repellant. It has a motion detector and when motion is detected it emits an extremely high pitched squeal at 110 Db. The frequency of the squeal is adjustable depending on what you are trying to repel. For cats you use the highest pitch available. My dog never hears it but it does keep the cats away.

Here is a link to where one is being sold Amazon.com: GONE: Cordless Yard Guard Model 0051: Outdoor Living

I bought mine direct from the Manufacturer. The back of the unit has the following toll free number 1-800-330-4108.

I have the unit mounted on a photographers light stand and aimed from high down at the car from the front end pointing aft... It doesnot hurt them but it does make them feel VERY UNWELCOME...

That is the best response yet, your local animal shelter or animal control will provide you with free traps. Have a fun ride and give the animals a California ride they will never forget
