polish the plastic window?
Anyone try polishing the plastic window? If so did work so that you can actually see through it? And was it worth it? I can just make shapes out of my window its terrible.

No dice.
If the window is clear already, I cannot verfy that it makes a difference or not. Some say it does.

I tried it, didn't work well. I even tried sanding it with 1500 grit and then polishing it, didn't work well. I'm convinced that you must replace the window.

Okay, guys -- I haven't tried this myself, but I was told that if you go to a marine/boat supply place they have a special polish just for clear plastic windshields (they're on boats, right?). I was told by a friend that it worked great on their plastic rear window -- I replaced my top, so don't need to try this anymore but would be very interested in whether it works or not. Keep me posted if you try it.

it's worth the effort, I managed to get out the light scratches and make the heavier ones less obvious. I used 3 separate polishes. The first one was for heavy scratches and that did a lot. The second was for lighter ones and the made the huge difference and the final was a cleaner/light polish that finished it off nicely. If you have deep yellowing or scratches they won't come out but it's worth the effort. BTW I CAREFULLY used a 6'' orbital buffer as well and that took a lot of the work out.

I bought some meguiars PLASTX clear plastic cleaner & polish. It shows a motorcycle windshield, taillights and a convertible top on the front of the bottle then shows a boat on the back. I have a mothers powerball I think I will try it out soon. Maybe this weekend. I'll let you know how it works.

I used the polish and powerball. It turned out not too bad. It definatly made an improvment over before. Check the pics.

Hay every one....
I was filling my washer bottle and as I add the RainX I thought ....
If this stuff is good for the glass. What would it do for the plastic?
So I did a test on a small spot in the corner. Wow...It cleared up the fog in the plastic a lot. My test spot kept getting bigger and bigger.......until I had the whole window done. I just rubbed it in an buffed off the excess. Easy.
The window looks much better and I can see out the back. The RainX stuff I was using is the concentrate.
What do y'all think?

If it works I'll game to try it. One of my third gens has the hard plastic rear window and the other has the sloppy soft plastic (brand new) -- I can't see crap out of either one, so anything is better than the present condition.

My past experience with convs is that I would replace the window 2 or three times times for every top replacement.
I tried most everything to try and preserve the plastic. I could keep scratches off with canuba wax but nothing prevented the yellow.
Exc covering the window in the sun of course.

Re: polish the plastic window?
Just tryed the meguiars stuff and it made my plastic back window look darn near close to new. I still have the original top so i didnt think it would do much. The meguiars plastic-x works beyond good. I just wiped it off with a wet microfiber cloth to get off any dust and used a super soft towel, rubbed it in and then buffed it out going back to forth.
Looks killer well worth the money.

Put my vote in for PlastX. I've also had great results.
Worked well on the fine scratches and hazing. Can help rejuvinate tailights too. It won't make things perfect, but it can make things a whole lot better.

Re: polish the plastic window?
I do this all the time on Corvettes and Antiques. I work for a high end restoration shop, and what we do is use a small buffer with a foam pad, and Meguiers number 84 polish/compound. It really clears them up over any plastic restoration stuff I have ever tried. I use this on gauge cluster lenses and lights also.
