third brakelight bulbs$$$
I noticed the third brakelight on my car didn't work so I took it apart. There is 5 bulbs and they were all burnt out. So I took one to the parts store and found that they are $9.99CAN each. Which maybe why they were never replaced by the previous owner. Is this normal or is there another alternative.

Unfortinately that's the price of the bulbs.
Awhile ago I replaced all those bulbs with LEDs. There was a guy on Ebay that had a set of 6 (one extra) and a resistor for pretty cheap (like 20 bucks).
My bird vert tailight is the same as camaro's 87-90.

OK, the Radio Shack part number is 272-1177 and they are $1.99 each. They are supposedly a direct replacement. Here is a link to the Radioshack site:

I bought a few of the bulbs that go into the side marker lights. I straightened the pins and that's exactly what the RadioShack bulb looks like. I believe they cost $1.49 for a pair or something.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad you posted this and I found it. I just bought a 91 Trans Am Vert. and not a single bulb in the third brake light worked. The third brake light working is a pet peeve of mine, so I was getting ready to buy them for the $8.00+ at Advanced auto. I read this and bought them at Radio Shaft for about $1.99 or so a piece. So that saved me over $30.00 Thanks again!!

Went to Radio Shack this weekend and got a bulb (272-1177). All of mine were out except one. Put the new 20w in and had someone hit the brake pedal. Man that 20w bulb got real hot in just a few seconds. Don't know if I want to run 5 of them getting that hot. I may try to find some 10w bulbs.

Hopefully you won't be needing to go through too many of these bulbs, and you haven't caused any damage to the socket(s) either (that could be costly).
Stock replacement AC Delco 3rd brake bulb #9441724, about $10 each.
This is a halogen bulb. Try not to handle the glass with your greasy fingers when you replace them.

Now you have a choice: Radio Shack @ $1.99 and now the LED setup for $9.75 complete. Anyone paying more has not been paying attention on this Form the price of these bulbs has been dicussed for years, I have used the Radio Shack ones for the last 10 yrs at least with no problems except normal burn outs and now I am going to try the LEDS because they are so cheap and easy to install.

Received my LED kit and installed with no problem. You just have to be careful putting the pins in, you need to spread them to fit. All in All it looks like its is worth the money $9.25 they may not be as bright as the orginals bulbs. Now you have a choice the LEDS or the Halogen.

I actually did which i will say again fit awesome but my connector that was on my car was shot so i just spliced the wiring right in. The spade connectors werent making contact on the wire coming from the spoiler.. Thats kind of what i fixed besides all of the burnt out incandescent bulbs with the led's

.... or if you're into creativity and uniqueness (like me), I was able to take a pair of LED light strips (24 LEDs per strip with 1/2-inch spacing) and form two rows. So my light fixture has 48 LEDs. Works great and looks awesome.
And because this is the convertible forum, I've gotta say that this light assembly is on my coupe. My convertible's third brake light uses two #906 bulbs (it's unique to 1987) which are cheap!
