it all depends on your rim size. I have 255's on 18's in the front and 265's on 18's in the rear. You can fit 275's on 18's in the rear, but may need to modify the fender lip a little if you have a large drop like my friend who has a 4" drop.

I have 275x40x17 on 17x9.5 wheels up front with no rubbing,
and 315x35x17 out back on 17x11 wheels no rubbing after some
inner fender well mods.

I had 255 on 16" rims before I went to the 18" rims. I had no problems at all... You could probably squeeze 265's in the back... I am unsure of the front. I usually use kumho tires. So if you wanted 265's you couldn't use the very good, but cheaper, 712 series; you would need to use the v700 or other road racing series tire. If your car is a daily driver I would just go with 255's all the way around using the 712 series. If you don't drive it as often or just want better traction then go with v700's in 255’s all the way around. And if you go to a local tire shop, they are usually more than willing to mount a tire to see if it fits... then you can try the 265's in the rear. As far as I know the largest size you can get are 265's on a 16" rim.

Here is my 2 cents worth....
My '92 Camaro has:
GOODYEAR Eagle GTII's
P235/55 R16
25th Anniversary rims.
Isn't the 235 the height of the tire, the 55 the width, the 16 the size of the rims, R is for radial and P is for passenger car?
