Yea same here, I sold off a few cars that I had in storage waiting on resto, I kept two for future projects. I am almost done with my third-gen, than I need to finish up my first gen that is sitting in the back corner of my shop on stands for the last year. I have no loyalty to just one brand, my DD is a 08 F-150 Quad cab, the wife has a Durango and we have an 04 ZO6. I have a 69 Firebird vert waiting on resto and a 70 Cuda (was a 6 auto) plan on doing this one when I can go Hemi 6 speed or a used Viper drivetrain. I had an old Datsun Z that I used to drive the wheels off of. I also had a 86 300 Turbo Z that my wife truely loved, that was a fun car to drive. So I guess I am just a car guy not a specific brand car guy lol.

Good to hear of someone else that owns/builds just because they like having cars. With all the parts vendors and the pay and pull yards out there it has become just as if not more economical to build a car and or update one than it is to buy new. Don't get me wrong we are now living and the latest 'Muscle Car Era' and they are very reliable, powerful and get much better gas mileage. For me rather than going out and spending $40,000 for a new muscle car that I can have many different cars and trucks and enjoy them at different time of the year...

Topsonline not only has all types their prices are competitive. I just recently replaced mine and now have real glass in my soft top instead of plastic. It's worth the extra money to have real glass and certainly better vision. Classic Industries has lots of parts fro thirdgens but there many companies you should find trunk lift supports-but you should find those in a parts yard without problems.

Sure I can, there is no difference or problems at all. I have read here that some people have some issues when the back seats are up...I never have the back seats up when I put the top down even when a had plastic window...
I have always placed a towel on the window of the top to prevent scratches on the plastic and continue with the glass window. The glass window is smaller than the old plastic so there is no 'folding' of the window and the glass window lays into the well just fine...

I love the glass window top that I just installed. I got it from Tops on Line and wouldnt have anything else. It is great.

Here is my 1988 Icoc-z vert, I´m from sweden and these cars is not that usual over here. It´s a 305 tpi with 5 speed manual, and has g92 and g80 package. It´s in a VERY good condition so I hope you like it.

Great looking car. I also own a red 88 IROC Z convertible, yours is just fantastic looking compared to mine as I need to paint it later this year. Seeing yours gives me some motivation. What area of Sweden do you live?. I used to travel on business to Haparanda yearly and love the area and I have been to many other areas of Sweden.
Did you polish those rims yourself and what size are they?.

I´m glad you like my car I live a few miles above Gothenburg in the south. Never been to haparanda and the north of sweden but I think it's nice too. The rims are American racing Iroc replicas bought from summit racing and they are 18 inces with 245/40-18 tires. Hope you get your car the way you want it, Irocs are amazing cars!

I am just now gathering replacement parts that I will need once I paint the Iroc, I just finished repairing some broken studs on used hood louvers I bought over the internet. I work part-time for a high end collision center and they will be painting my Iroc later this summer-I just have the prep and sand the car-I have done many cars so it is just finding time between family and work.
I have been to Gothenburg many times for sport along with other towns and cities in Sweden and Scandinavia-all of it for Greco Roman wrestling.
I would like to be there sometime when there would be a car show...Again I do like the look of your rims and think I need to start saving my money to buy a set like yours. I have original 16inch wheels and the front and rear rims are slightly different so I must take off the tires when I rotate my tires. Do you need to do that with your aftermarket rims?

Thanks for sharing the info on the glass and your towel trick. For 2 years now I have been placing a bath towel across the full width of the top, starting from the top of the flexible window up to the last 'fold' near the windshield before folding it down into the tonneau compartment. My top is just 6 years old now and has developed wear spots in the canvas from rubbing together when folded and stored... pretty much when I drive the car the top gets put down. (what other way is there to drive a vert?)

I will have to look for the brand, or ask the upholstery shop. This top is really heavy duty canvas, but so much so its a tight fit on the sides when folding back into the tonneau compartment. It rubs enough putting it down that I've had to replace the tonneau seal 2 times now. But I don't have the OE seal, probably should post a picture of how I changed it.... much better than messing with the OE foam seal glued to the bottom side of the tonneau lid.

Everything else about it seems very good. And it doesn't rattle or squeak when its up...

Sorry this is such a late post, but I think maybe we need a 'convertible top' repair thread? This one is a picture thread and its getting informative in other ways.

Gas shocks/struts for the convertible lids are not listed in a number of the big box auto parts stores catalogs, at least from my experience. We are fortunate to have a local AC Delco warehouse the sells to the public, and they have the correct ones. Not always an AC Delco part, but they have Monroe too. I have purchased 'cheap' ones at AutoZone/Napa and similar. Rockauto.com lists a lot of numbers/vendors for the convertible shock. I just spent 15 minutes looking for the part numbers and am calling it quits for now. They are out there, just choose wisely. I will go out and look at mine for a p/n. They have lasted about 6 years now and the lid is up and down a lot.

Looks like you kept the originality of the Firebird and it looks great as does your Monte Carlo SS. I rebuilt 86 Monte SS a few years ago for my wife and she drove that thing like Maria Andretti-balanced and blueprinted engine with stall converter, fun car.
Keep em on the road I say, thanks for sharing.
