Re: Your Convertibles

Looks just like mine, but the dealership put the aqua stripe on and I like it becuase its unique, at least around here. what's the last 6 digits of your VIN? Mine is 153115 and was an ASC conversion. Mine has the first design center tail lite with only 2 bulbs and narrower thatn the rear tag, haven't seen alot of them. My "glovebox" is exacly like yours too. Marty

Re: Your Convertibles

Here's my 91 T/A 'vert. Needs a little work. Just bought it less than a week ago, for the money that I got it for, you just can't pass it up. 98k miles. Feels good to own this rare car.

It's not very pretty now but she's getting there.

Re: Your Convertibles

My car needs a new home, although I hate selling, I lost my job since I last came here, almost two years without getting hired, I just don't know what I can save of this mess I'm in. I own two cars currently, 88 Sedan Deville with cracked block and flat tire, and the rusty, not so mint condition 1989 Firebird Formula 350. Because it is so rare, my asking price is $3500...with a new top I never got on and extra door stickers as well as nose and bumper I never put on. Cloth seats can likely be ejected and replaced with Recaro or something, the rain got on all this interior but it dries out in 48 hours too, over all, it's taken some punches. When I can I put two car covers over it, and for a long time, I didn't have any of those. I took updated pics, but they are scary for some, compared to the few shots I took when it was new..(to me)

Re: Your Convertibles

Is it wierd to like the looks of the car with the top up? Im not a top down guy really at all...I think mine has gone down a total of 15 times in the 2 years of driving it. Ussually when I take a girl out and she doesnt mind her hair getting messed up. I want a T/A vert, they look the best imo

Re: Your Convertibles

For some odd reason more people look at my wifes 1990 IROC convertible with the top up than down. I have driven the car more than she does and have been approached by numerous people asking about selling it. You get more peoples attention with the top up, and like the guy at Lowes this weekend yelled across the parking lot " that is a cool car". Top up.

The weird thing is my 1987 IROC looks better than the day it rolled off the Vanuys line, but it doesnt draw near the attention the good condition convertible does, top up or down. See my garage for pics.

Now THAT is a sweet IROC-Z I think that would look really cool next to my '91 Z28 in a photo. Let me know if you ever think about selling it.

Re: Your Convertibles

Thanks John,
I really appreciate your comments. I have been working on her steadily over the summer. During the winter and through next year i would like to do new seat covers, recover the rear panels, new exhaust and headers[she still has the origional] and perhaps some head or camshaft work. There is always something to be done on our old cars....

The only 2 seat conversions that I know of were done by Autoform of Elkhart IN. IIRC there was a total of around 500 to 600 of them made from 1983 - 1986, there is someone here that has the production information. to the best of the information I have read the Autoform cars were drop shipped to from the factory, converted then delivered to the participating dealership new. They had an agreement with GM, but they are not an "official" GM conversion.

Thanks. My fellow Brits view me/it as unsubtle, loud, polluting and extrovert . I get quite a few conversations with people actually, usually at the gas station but anywhere seems to provoke some sort of reaction. I get a lot of thumbs up and "what is it mate?" comments.

It is a big ole head turner over here, but I'm not the shy type so it's all good!

Hahaha well then that works out perfectly for you. Its hard to tell from the picture, but I'm assuming that's a regular left-hand drive model imported from the US? Have you seen any right-hand drive thirdgens where you are?

Yep just a regular US car from Chicago as it happens. Left Hand Drive. I think the Australians did right hand drive conversions but it doesn't bother me at all- it all adds to the drama.

& just for factural information this is a louver

These are blisters (these are aftermarket & will not fit the iroc hoods.)

You are WRONG. I just redid my car and placed an 88 Iroc Hood on my 91 RS and also placed the blisters on the Iroc Hood. They fit perfectly and the hole line up. Please do your research before posting such blatant comments.

Re: Your Convertibles

To be fair there are aftermarket versions that attach to flat RS style hoods. They look the same but glue on and won't fit a Z28 or Iroc hood with the recessed pockets.

The Iroc Hood has the recessed pockets, that is what I am getting at. The blisters fit perfectly in them. I can send you closeup shots if you dont believe me.

Wow. Calm down there turbo. Obviously reading comprehension isn't your strong suit but she says those are aftermarket blisters that won't fit in place of stockers. Not that ALL blisters won't work. Understand?

Re: Your Convertibles

My '91 RS bought in Hawaii three years ago, shipped to SoCal, driven to AZ and then back to SoCal, where it resides at the present. Nice car, gets 20 mpg in town and turns heads everywhere.

If you re-read her post you will see that she put in parenthesis ( ) that the particular ones she was posting are aftermarket. Please do your research before posting such ignorant posts

The aftermarket blisters DO NOT fit on a Z28 hood. Yes, the original GM hoods are recessed to fit both louvers AND blisters, BUT, the aftermarket blisters will not fit. Thank you, come again.

Re: Your Convertibles

I really like the 92 w/the polo green and gold stripes. When I was in high school I had a 67 camaro, sold it about 6 years ago, anyway, I had a girlfriend at the time and her parents friends had bought a brand new polo green convertible w/the gold stripes brand new. Yours looks just as nice as I remember that one years ago.
