what is it with some of you?

what is it with some of you?
i've purchased three separate things from members or people registered anyhow and all three times i was told the items in question where of great condition when in reality i was amazed you could still tell what they were.....granted i didn't pay as much as a great condition piece would be which is why i took the chance but some people need to get their act together.
if your selling junk just say it's junk...........at least then the person knows and if the item is that cheap anyhow most times we'll expect it.
damn...some people.

Some people are too picky. Great condition for a 20 year old part is NOT the same thing as great condition for a 1 year old part.

yes it is....either it's good condition or it isn't. i have a toyota that's "great" condition for an 89. does that mean i'd sell it as great condition?
either it is or isn't in good shape.
either it is or isn't in good shape.

I'm inclined to agree. A friend of mine and I argue over this all the time. To him, a 15 year old part in mint condition can have some dings and scratches in it. To me, it better be clean enough to eat off of, have zero blemishes, and even SMELL new to be considered mint, 15 years old or not.

You should always ask for some pic's before you buy at least then you'll have a general idea what shape it's in. So far I haven't been burnt yet but I imagine it's just a matter of time because we all know how people love to tell the truth

well i wasn't necessarily saying i was burnt. i certainly don't expect much from others these days, just needed to rant at the time and i think it's a general rule of thumb that no matter what it is or how old it is the guidelines should be the same.
either it's in good condition or it's not.

I agree great condition should mean great condition regardless of how old it is. Nothing is more aggravating than those kind of guys that think EVERYTHING they own is mint and worth top buck although it seldom is... yet when the shoe is on the other foot they think everything you have is junk and worthless. Blarg!

yep, i've sold things before that could have been brand new but asked half what i paid just because i either mounted to test fit or just didn't have a use for them.
i agree with the beauty is in the eye of the beholder and other bs as well as something is only worth what someone will pay but there needs to be a standard like it use to be.

If it "looks", and functions like brand new, its not used - it's refurbished.

Well, picky or not, there are cases where "great condition" is advertised, and junk is received.
I bought a shift plate in "great" condition. It had multiple burn marks, crusty gunk coating it, and the automatic overdrive lettering was worn off.
I bought "perfect" seatbelts, was told the plastic sleeves were not splitting. They were, and they were very faded, more faded than the ones I am replacing.
Sometimes, sure it's a matter of opinion. Alot of times, though, it's pretty cut and dry. Junk is junk. If it's advertised as "like new" or perfect, I expect it to look "like new" or perfect, not "pretty good for a 20 year old part left outside in the yard for 10 years that I'm too lazy to wipe the dirt off of".

Yeah I dunno, I think Jeff has a point. Sometimes people are stretching the truth a bit when it comes to the condition of stuff they are selling. Everyone does have different ideas on whats considered good condition and stuff, but generally speaking it shouldn't be that hard to determine. If its broken, cracked, or rusted out, then how can it be in good condition? I've experienced what Jeff is talking about when buying stuff over E-Bay so I know how he feels. Because of my experiences I no longer buy stuff from people unless they have a picture of the part itself (or its NIB). So Jeff, from now on I'd say you request a picture of the part. I know not everyone has a digital camera, but its the only real way to see what you are buying before you buy it. Unfortunately we cant just trust everyone so we need to cover our butts.

well i faired ok...as i said the main point of the thread was as many have said just to open peoples minds. if i need a part bad enough or it's cheap enough chances are it won't matter but i don't like deceptive pictures and items that are considered something they aren't.

I agree with Jeff. THe other week my brother bought a Shifter **** for his Z28 on ebay. The pic wasnt good on the auction, but the owner claimed it in mint mint excellent condition, ended up whenhe recieved it the other day the shifter ball was all beaten down and had lot of fade marks. Its total when ppl sell car parts. Like kandied said, either it good cond or not. Hopefully th shifter plate he bought is in good cond as the owner claims.

I know what your saying Kandied91Z. Some parts just have to be seen in person. Some people have no problem in lying as long as they get your money.
Ebay is the worst about this kinda of thing. Ive bought a few parts thru ebay so I know. The saler will say the part is in good condition. I look at the picture and its junk. I get a good laugh out of it.
Ive never had any problems buying parts thru this site though.

I'm sorry that you got shafted, OSU76LT. I looked at those "excellent" shifter plates for weeks before coming across one that seemed too good to be true; I saw a plate that looked to be "better-than-GM-NOS" quality, and after I saw a couple of average-quality pictures I won it for $75 shipped. It turned out to be a true mint item from an '87 IROC-Z28 - the only thing missing was the GM box. Frankly, I was rather surprised.

Yeah man you be suprised how much money you coulda made outta of your shifter plate. Ive seen them got 80 bucks! And they werent in top condition. Esp the 90-92 Shifter plates they go anywhere from 30 bucks to 100 bux. Seems like the IROC ones are cheaper (have no idea why) To bad you ditched that plate, my bro woulda been intrested

I completely agree, but I do realize that my perception of mint or excellent condition is a little higher than the average joes. Some people are trying to scam you and some just too friggin stupid to realize that a little discoloration, worn corners, cracking etc is not mint! I always do my best to get a picture and explain this isnt for a beater project car and all the traits of the condition I'm looking for. But then again some people are complete *** holes and dont properly explain things etc. I spent almost $200 for a "absolutely perfect 1 year old oem" replacement dash pad for mine which had one single little crack and recieved a piece of junk.. in this case tho it wasn't the item pictured and the guy just completely lied his *** off, but I'm hopefully getting my money back on it from my credit card fraud claim, so I can stop bitching about it. Best thing to do is get the person to guarantee the condition of the part and to give you your money back if its not satisfactory.. but that doesnt mean they will always do it

Mint is Mint, regardless of age. Good is Good. Etc.
However, if you want new/mint, pay the new price and just get a new one from the dealer.
Some don't describe things fairly, but by the same token some people just expect too much out of used parts. Then there's some want it yesterday, new in box, and want it for free.
