Idle trouble
I own an 84 TA 4bbl HO. I start it up and let it run until the hot idle kicks in... and it starts out around 700rpm in Park. I put it in gear, and it goes fine at about 550-600rpm when the car is stopped. After running for about 20min to a half hour, the idle drops to like 450-500 in gear (stopped) and to about 600rpm in park. Should I just have the hot idle turned up, or is something wrong???

You say the car stalls when hot? If you put the car into nuteral (sp) what happens? Are you driving an auto? If you answered yes to both of these then I would look at the torque convert lockup systems. It can be disconnected to test. Not knowing your model. There is a vacuum switch on the firewall, if not then disconnect at the brake pedal switch.

It is an automatic. If in park or neutral, the idle does rise enough to keep the car from stalling (~600rpm). Naturally, the idle drops when you put it in gear due to the resistance by the tranny. I'm beginning to believe that the idle is just set too low, but I just want to make sure. Thanks for any replies.

there is two idle adjustments. One is for the normal and the other adjustment is for when the choke is cold. When the choke palte is closed then you need to adjust the idle screw that is hidden by the choke linkage on the left side of the carb. adjust it to about 1500 rpm. Once the choke has been pulled off then you need to adjust the screw on the right side of the carb. by the gas pedal linkage. Adjust the sticker it to about 600rpm.
