carb 383 stroker instead of injected

I've got a 1990 IROC Z with a TPI 305, l live in illinois, and have emissions once every 2 years l beleive, and l was wondering if l would be able to swap a 383 stroker
with a 4 bbl into my camaro and possibly get around emissions l also have some other questions:
a. will a non compuer controlled 383 stroker with a bbl be fairly compatible with the TH 700R4 speed transmission?
b. will anything be non-functional after the swap?
c. would I be better off swapping in an originally carbed car?
d. will l have a tough time with exhaust since its only single outlet?
e. will l pass emissions (thats the least of my worries though)

thanks very much

I would leave the tbi on when you drop a 383 in. Some people have problems with the ecm and some dont. My friend poped a stroker in an 89z28 tbi and just got a better fuel pump and jetchip that seemed to do the trick you could get a bigger tbi unit if you needed to. But this might be the only way to go to keep your emmisons "junk"!

No you would have to keep the ecm in order to pass emissons or so they say it just depends on how strict the emmision laws are in your state and how good of a carb tunner you are.
I know people that get away with no cc systems in La but they know thier stuff on tunning a carb. I would think its easyer to keep your tbi and buy a 190$ chip and if you need a fuel pump buy one later. you could go 3inch exhaust and a high flow cat back system as far as exhaust. For the 700r4 put a big cooler on it and get a vett servo. Is this going to be your daily driver? If it is i would keep the tpi.

A carb isn't going to cut it for a '90 model; CC or non-CC, doesn't matter. The only certified inductions systems that year were TBI and TPI. The difference is obvious, and you would not pass visual.

Technically, the 383 is not certified, but if it is under a certified induction system, they aren't going to be able to tell the difference. Use certified aftermarket parts is you change anything, like intake, runners, or TB.

You should have 1-3/4" primary headers and 3" y-pipe to muffler. Either a single 3" outlet or dual 2-1/2".

Use at least 22lb injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, cat & AIR, probably a custom chip; if everything else is in good shape, you should have a good running package that can easily pass emissions.

like l said, emissions is the least of my worries, l can become exempt fairly easily, and in the state of illinois we dont have a visual inspection, and the emissions arent extremely strict, but l still doubt that l'd be able to pass emissions with a carb'd 383 but like l said l have no problems becoming exempt from emissions, and fuel injection, in my opinion is too much money and work when compared to a carburetor.

oh, you will need to redo your fuel system for about $60
and you might need a TV cable and bracket.
Carter/Edlebrock carbs are very easy to connect the TV cable to.

yeah, l just need to know if lm going to have to change any parts of the driveline, and if its going to be compatible with the TH 700 R4 thats in there, l heard a lot of the 700 R4s are computer controlled or something like that lm not sure if its true or not, but l just want to be sure, and will there be anything else l would have to worry about as far as computers? should l just basically pull out all the computer controlls on the car?

thanks a lot

yep you can pull all that out.
Only the newer 700R's are computer controlled... just don't get one of those.

a 383 is the same size as a 305, so there is no problems with it fitting the same way.

MouseCamaro305 you will be more than happy with your carbed 383. It's alot simpler and less expensive. I myself went with a 750 HOlley v.s.
