Wiring for non-computer-controlled carb
The computer in my 84TA was ditched, and now there is a mess of wiring strewn everywhere. Really looks like crap. I would *like* to rip it all out and start over. My main concern is that I don't want to affect the wiring in the dash. I just want to wire the Alternator, AC compressor, wiper motor, and distributor from scratch. So, can I rip out all the wiring under the hood without affecting anything else? How would I go about re-wiring it all? Any sites that explain it? BTW - I am ASE certified in Electrical, but I am just trying to research this throughly before I start.
Thanks

Rather than completely rewiring, why not just unwrap the harnesses back to the fender/firewall connectors and cut off what doesn't go to what you need? Then, rewrap and you're done.
For my '82, the Haynes manual had pretty decent wiring diagrams. '84 isn't much different. '86 wasn't covered, so I got microfiche copies from the library - they weren't so good.

The computer's harness is completely separate from the ones that work the alternator, gauges, lights, etc. Every single computer wire under the hood is routed through the harness on the pass side; and every single other wire comes from the driver's side. Disconnect the computer one from each of its sensors and other parts such as the carb, and carefully pull it back, and leave it wadded up in the fender well or something. I would strongly urge you not to cut anything; it's totally unnecessary.
