Edeldbrock q-jets?
i swapped a 350 ZZ3 built alike engine with trickflow twisted wedge head on my 1987 Camaro. I first tried to run the computer crap.... but oh lord... there is nothing i can do to either lean the mixture ( i get a headache from driving the car due to the rich exhaust fume) or the to more power... and i know there is more power there!
I have decided to get rid of all that computer crap, and since Florida recently kick back is emission policy, well I am in great shape....
I have decided to do the following:
This setup I have on my daily driven zz3 350 V8 carburated engine. I
have edelbrock T.E.S headers, Eldelbrock performer aluminum intake and (trick flow )heads, GM ZZ3 Camshaft (
208/221 @ .50), and flat cast piston ( 10:1 C/R). All driven on 92 pump
gasoline.
Parts selection:
IGNITION SYTEM
1) Mallory Comp 900 Unilite Electronic Distributor ( P/N 9148201) and
the coil a P/N 29440.
2) Mallory Hyfire VI CD Ignition Box (P/N 685).
INDUCTION SYSTEM
THE REAL QUESTION I HAD is about what Carb to use.
I really like those BIG secondarie that the Q-jet have... and was thinking to using those BRAND new Edelbrock Q-jet carburetor.... the one I am particular interested is the M4M 1980-1986 electric choke version... They have this CARB for Chevy trucks.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ALL THIS??
ANY OTHER SUSGGESTION ( LIKE CARB)?
Thanks

I would think you would spend a lot less money getting the CC to work. Recall that GM offers the ZZ4 (used to be ZZ3) in a CC-compatible form. They give you a new ECM & PROM, but I would imagine that just a PROM change would do the trick for you. See the post in the Motor Swap forum on what a car will do with the conversion - no apparent power problem there.
But, if you want to go computerless, your plan of action looks good. If, however, Florida changes its mind about emissions testing in a year or two (or have their minds changed for them), then you're going to have to do the computer thing anyway.
Oh, one small typo in your info: the cam duration is @ .050", not .50".
