Edelbrock vs. Road Demon
I have narrowed my searches down to these two. Its either the 1406 edelbrock or the road demon carb. I'm planning to use these with the performer RPM manifold on my 305. Can anyone tell me how they compare as far as gas milage, performance, and driveability in cold weather(very important here in chicago)

Go with the Edelbrock. It will run well right out of the box with no tuning necessary. You probably want a 600 cfm for your car.

The edelbrock will require some tuning but it can be done with just a screwdriver and some patience. The road demon is going to get worse gas milage because it delivers more fuel and is setup for performance. The reason why it keeps flooding? Too much fuel and the jets are probibly too large for the little 305. I am running the edelbrock 600 on my 350 with .98 promary jets. A little lean for my taste but I still get enough fuel. I am currently getting 14-15 mpg in town with traffic. With the 305, I say go edelbrock unless you plan some huge upgrades later. The road demon will not make you car faster, it might even slow it down untill you get the proper mixture.

I say go with either a Q-jet or a Holley. from my past experiances the Demon carbs and good to look at and that is about it and the Edelbrock/Carter carbs are way lean. I can say the Edelbrocks get good gas milage but performance wise at W.O.T. you will not get the gains you would with a Holley or Q-jet. The Edelbrock will get about the same gas milage as a well tuned Q-jet and the Q-jet will perform every bit as well as a Holley at W.O.T..... Just my 2 cents.

I think i'll go with the Edelbrock, which should be way enough for the 305. Also, there is a good deal in Jegs where i can get the performance rpm manifold with the edelbrock carb and the camshaft for about 440 dollars. When i order the package, i'm just gonna put the manifold and carb in. My only concern is, will i be able to swap all this into a 350 later on?? thanks for all the help.
