Adjustment of the mixture control solenoid in my Q-Jet
How much of a gap should I have between the solenoid-controlled needle plate (can't think of the correct name) of my electronic Q-Jet and the lean stop arm above it?

I don't remember the spec off hand, but the best way to set your lean stop is by using the proper tool. Basically, it's a tube that slides over a primary jet and you adjust teh MCS so that the needle plate jimmy just touches the tube at the bottom. You should be able to get that tool at any big auto store.
As for what is above it...if you have a built in rich stop then it is a little more involved, but also automatic, there is no rich stop setting. If you have an airhorn mounted rich stop then you adjust this for 4/32" travel.
If that doesn't help then you need to be more specific with your question.

Nope, no rich stop. It only has the lean stop. The needle goes down as far as the solenoid will pull it, but the upward travel is limited by the lean stop.
I'll go and see who have such a calibrated tube. Thanx!

Yup, the lean stop is the height of the MCS body. Their are 2 forms of rich stop, a U kinda thing that hooks under the body and keeps MCS travle to 4/32, or adjustable type where it is in the airhorn. It sounds like you have the former.
I think you are very confused and are probably breaking something. If you do in fact have the built in style rich stop, you cannot adjust the height of the MCS body relative to it.
