Yeah I'd also like to know since I am going to rebuild a motor. Thinkin about getting a 350 or rebuilding the 305 in the garage.
Anyone think the 305's a performer? It'll save me a bit to rebuild the 305. Convince me.

Look at the specs on '92 thirdgens, LB9 vs L98... there's not that big of a difference in performance, the 350 is great if torque is what you're looking for, but Hp is only slightly higher... I think that building up a 305 is more impressive, and it takes a little more thinking to acheive goals. I'm starting a slow build up this summer (anything I can do that will not take more than a weekend) of my LG4. I just can't stand jumping on band wagons... the 350 is too mainstream.
If you want a bigger engine, build up a 400 SBC, that is also something I've considered.

That would be a good challenge. Basically I want to have a good street/strip car. All the Camaros(4) in my area are stock as far as i know. I wan't to be quicker than them and all the vettes here(there aren't many) 1/4 mile. Any suggestions?

If you want much more than 300hp you need a 350. The 305 bore limits your valve size to smaller valves. Thats the main problem. But it is quite possible to get 300hp out of one.

Get yourself a P.A.W catalogue and look at different rebuild kits for the 305. They have a ton. Also notice that the kits for the 350 are quite a bit cheaper (just something to think about), interestingly enough. A 305 can be made to run well, but will take more $$$ cha-ching . That catalogue is great. It's like a reference manual for SBC owners!

Heads, headers, exhaust. Gotta let it breath.
If I had the money, I'd go with AFR, Dart or Canfield heads.
The heads are not milled, I did change the valve springs with some aftermarket cheapies that had better lift capabilities.
Moser 9" with 4.11's
Spohn LCA's, Torque arm and relocation brackets.
BFG drag radials at 18psi..
You will need to change your computer distributer to a vacuum advance style. I have a Summit cheapy in there now, it sucks. Spend a little more and get something to compliment that MSD box.

good! thats what I wanna do. I was thinking of the same engin mods.
I was planning on using the vortech heads and an Air Gap manifold. What do you suggest on the cam and carb. How is that Holley 650 of yours? speedlimit out here is only 25mph so I don't think top end really matters. Does it? What I really want is to be in the 13's. I like a lumpy Idle but streetable. Not too rough.
What ya say? Help me out?

I removed my computer last night. I am swaping in a 350 (origanly LG4 equipt) with a 650 cfm Holley 4 barell. Performer intake and prolly hooker headers. The 350 has 305 heads with oversized valves. Block has been bored .040 over. And it has solid lifter "short track" cam (power band 3200-7000rpm), and steel crank. Along with some good 'ol "pink" ("x") connecting rods.
Although I will prolly change the cam to a lower rpm power band and also change it to hydrolic lifters.
The tranny is a 700r4. Stock converter.
What times do yall think i will be getting with this setup?
It is going to be a daily driver BTW.

island..
The cam I have is lumpy but streetable. You'll need a cowl hood to get that airgap to fit. The performer barely fits under the stock hood.
The 650 works very well, good throttle response, good top end.
