Which carb?
So we have an 85 T/A as most of you know by now, with an almost stock LG4.
We just bought an L83 from an 84 vette to throw in there. We hope to get about 400HP at the crank, we're using a 2002 Z28 10 bolt rear end which limits us.
One of the questions that came up is whether to use the quadrajet off the LG4 or off the L83. Neither are original I believe. Checking the numbers I got..
The one on the LG4 is a 1984 Rochester Quadrajet off of a chevy with an automatic transmission.
The one on the L83 is a 1979 Carter Quadrajet off of a chevy with an auto.
We're planning on doing a very clean painted bay with a black motor. As empty as the bay can be on a budget. So we're eliminating everything computer related that can be. We want as little wires and hoses as possible.
It's going to be a weekend rider not a DD. To accomplish this, do we need just to get over the money and buy a new holley, or can one of these quads be used and look clean with almost no wires/hoses?
Here are some pics, the one shown on the engine is the 1984.

Also if you look, the 79 has no remnants at all of a choke it seems.. And the 84 has a plug but wasn't plugged in. And if it was, it would be very noticeable in a clean engine bay.
Thanks!

Be carful with the stock L83 heads, they are crack prone and don't really flow that great, hope you plan on upgrading them to get your power number. My step dad has an 84 vette, when we rebuilt the engine in it we kept the stock rotating assembly, put in a Voodoo cam 60103 with matching springs, and a cheap jegs intake and a Q-jet I had from a 73 LS4 Corvette, and that thing RUNS hard, not 400 hp hard, but way harder than the stock cross-fire pulled in his vette, it was a very "budget friendly" build that will really surprise you.

Didn't want to spend the money.. But they're so pretty..
May just end up going with one..
Yep, we're going aluminum heads. As of now, Promaxx 190cc aluminum heads, somewhat lopey low to mid end cam, RPM intake if I can get it to fit, headers and a single 3.5" exhaust. With either a QJet or Holley.

Re: Which carb?
You should be able to fit the RPM. I have solid motor mounts on my '86 Bird and fit the RPM AG, barely, with modification. It required removing the heat blanket and cutting the underhood structure where the air cleaner resides. Also installed the absolute lowest drop base air cleaner assy I could find. I have maybe 1/4" clearance. Wish I could remember what brand the air cleaner was, I think it's a 1.6" drop.
