Choke stuck on and high idle
Hey guys,
Just finished putting on a new fuel pump and fired up the car. Everything runs good except the choke light is on and the car is running fast on idle (1200rpm). The choke is open. Its not a vac leak and I am not an expert when it comes to carbs. I believe the choke is just stuck just need some help with how I go about gettin it unstuck.
I got the original q-jet carb on it. 5.0L 305

Re: Choke stuck on and high idle
If the choke is open it's not likely stuck, the choke light is either a sign of impending alternator/battery issues or the fuse is blown,I've had both.
There is a adjustment for idle speed under choke on the choke side of the carb,I had to turn it way down when I got my car, haven't touched it since.

Re: Choke stuck on and high idle
There's a big metal arm between the choke housing and the body of the carb. Usually greenish in color, sort of triangular-shaped head on it. Push down on that arm and it will force the choke linkage back down to the normal idle speed (set by the screw on the opposite side of the carb by the throttle arm).
It's possible that linkage is a little bound up (the choke plate has it's own arm to open and close it, separate from the fast idle cam linkage). If you find that's the case, a little carb cleaner and some basic visual inspection is called for to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Re: Choke stuck on and high idle
Is it the stock quadrajunk, or aftermarket?
The red lever in the pic (holley carb) is the fast idle arm. Sounds like it might be binding. Choke can be open fully but still in "fast idle". Push that arm down manually and see if it was stuck/if that fixes it. If so, putting a little lube on the assembly should help
