Best Carb for 350 Vortec?
I'm probably going to build a 350 with vortec heads, eldebrock air gap intake, and a nice roller cam. What would be the best carb? Keep in mind this is my daily driver. And I hope to get at least decent mileage with it. My budget for a carb is around $400..

If you aren't doing anything crazy then I'd imagine that a 600 or 650 holley would do you just fine.

What mpg would I expect to get? I would like to think 13-14. I usually do city driving and I like to give at little gas here and there

Yeah, I think that'd be fair estimate, it all depends on how you tune it and how you drive it lol

I was throwing the idea of trying a Q-Jet because the primaries are smaller but you need a spread bore intake for that. Even then for me it's really hard to stay out of the throttle anyways. lol
Otherwise yes, a 650 Holley.
The gearing will make a difference in gas mileage as well.

I had the 650 holley doublepumper on a very similiar engine. It was GREAT. The throttle response was night and day in comparison to an edelbrock i had ran. Try to run non-ethanol gas if you can though

Re: Best Carb for 350 Vortec?
Edelbrock is ok too. It gets down to a personal choice sometimes. I like Holley double pumpers even if a vacuum secondary will do. Quadrajets are next and then Edelbrock for me. The next guy will probably say something completely different and some of it has to do with what people are used to as well as how well they can tune one or the other.
I'm not sure how the T-5 is geared but the rear is such that you might be into the throttle more than say a 3.73. If you have an engine with good torque and low gears you won't be into the throttle as much. That may help you stay out of the secondaries more than say less torque and higher gears. Higher gears will keep the rpm down while on the highway and that can depend on what speed you like to cruise at.
A vac secondary with a choke may be more suited to a daily driver. If you google you'll find more info on the differences. These will explain better than I can. (I'm not a mechanic or anything btw.)

What did you do with your motor? You have vortec heads and a 650 Holley. What kind of cam do you have?
