CC Quadrajet stutterīs with B Hanger and DR Rods

Hey !

Iīve got a overhauled L69 Engine with following Modifications:

Cam:

Ignition: +10°
High Perf Ignition Distributor and Coil

Hedman Hedders Street Headers (68470)
with Y-Pipe (17478) and welded Plugin for the Lambda

Flowmaster 80 Exhaust
(between still the original stuff, but not for long time from now on)

Further I got a self made adjustable Bar to the Accelerator Pump for more "Fuel-Inlet". sorry hard to describe as my english is not the best.
The small bar between the arm that pushes down the "button" on the accelerator pump and the mechanism which leads to the gas-rope.

Now to the Problem:
On my aswell overhauled and good working CC Quadrajet
was original the following Setup:

N Hanger and
CH Rods

I wanted to swap these, because after the recent headers swap, the car went not better than before, even worse I thought.
A friend of mine said, yes thats cause of the Secondarys, wich now need to be adjusted with Hangers and Rods.

So I got as described and recommended in several threads here in the forum following:

B Hanger and
DR Rods

With both mounted the car starts stuttering as soon as I reach 3500 RPM+ and has no power in upper RPM Area.

I crosstested this with some other Hangers I found in my Garage

N Hanger + DR Rods - ok
K Hanger + DR Rods - ok / better
B Hanger + DR Rods - stuttering / awfull

Any Idea why this setup does not work for me?

Re: CC Quadrajet stutterīs with B Hanger and DR Rods

If you've got no power over 3500 I would put secondary rod issues WAY down the list of possible causes. Outrunning the fuel system (fuel pump no keeping up with demand, or clogged fuel filter) would be my first thought. Factory fuel filter is mounted in the nose of the carb, behind the fuel line inlet on a QJet. The fuel flows from the INSIDE of the filter out, so they can be totally plugged and still look perfectly clean from the outside.

Second thought would be an exhaust restriction. An internally melted/collapsed catalytic converter is a prime suspect on these old cars. Especially if its the factory original.

Re: CC Quadrajet stutterīs with B Hanger and DR Rods

But its only with the B Hangers, and not with the K or N Hangers... you think they can make so much more performance, that it has to be an other cause ?

Fuel Filter is new but not a special one..
High Perf. / Heavy Duty Fuel Pump (mechanical) is on the Block and the electric one in the Tank (LG4 Car + L69 Engine)

Only the Catalytic can be an restriction,.. still the old factory, but the rest are as described above new parts

Well, then put in the K hanger with the DR rods!

Seriously, I have never known a hanger to make that much difference, but maybe they're something wrong with that particular hanger. The rods themselves are 90% of the difference, the other 10% is the hanger in most cases.
