Loose gas pressure, carbed engine, electric pump

I have a 91 RS, i had to drop the tank on my car, as it used to be injected, (previous owner swapped). in shop class we dropped my tank and took the old injected fuel pump out. there is a metal line going to the bottom of my tank, where the electric pump is hooked up (the line was the old return line i believe, but it goes all the way down). My fuel pump is located nearly under my gas tank because when i got the car it was in the engine bay, and caused probs.
The pump is held on by a hole drilled to the car(you can see the bolt behind the driver side back seat, with the wires running under my molding.

The problem is, every now and then i will hit my gas too hard and it will loose all pressure in the fuel line. Or if i sit in the car with ignition on, then start it and drive it does it too.

The pump is from auto zone, was about $50 dollars, it was the same kind that came with my car before, i replaced it about 8 months ago.

Any ideas???

Some movement is normal but it shouldn't go from 1/2 tank down to E and then back up though

Sounds like your sucking in air from the tank because the pickup is getting uncovered.

First your pickup should look something like the attached picture for a carb engine or the old line from the EFI pickup needs to be extended to the lower bracket that held the old electric pump. See the link below

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...nk-pickup.html

The fuel tank should have a baffle in it to keep the fuel from moving around the tank too much and uncovering the pickup. Over the years this baffle could have come loose.

Re: Loose gas pressure, carbed engine, electric pump

The hose/tubing should have gone into a baffle inside the tank to reduce the fuel from sloshing around. Either you didn't get the end of the pickup into the baffled area or some how your baffle isn't where it should be. When installing the sending unit it should just drop into place sitting flat. If you have to push one side down then something is not right.

Re: Loose gas pressure, carbed engine, electric pump

Seeing your other post combined with this one I'm almost 100% you are sucking air into the pickup because you have unusual fuel slosh. Since you said you have a fuel screen on it I doubt that something is blocking the pickup causing the drop in pressure. Either way you need to drop the tank and check the inside.

If I didn't just sell a new tank about 2 months ago I would post pics, sorry
