I know I keep asking for help but I have never worked on a SBC before. I am trying to get as much info as I can before I but it back together.
I need to get a timing set, anyone have any suggestions?
The cam I got is a comp cam 12-211-2

Re: the new guy

If you're on a budget, the standard Summit one will work fine. Just stay away from the nylon gears or the false 'true' rollers.

Since I already had a tab open on Summit's site when I read this, I decided to look up a "standard Summit one".

Interestingly, they don't really offer one anymore. They have a Summit-brand double-roller set, $68.95. Not what I would call "budget".

However, they list a Melling set that is more reasonable at $42.95. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/me...make/chevrolet

Re: the new guy

I'm still seeing SUMG6501 at $14.25? I've used it in at least one motor, maybe more.

Semi-amazingly, Summit lists it as a "Summit Racing Standard Timing Set".

Good find. Didn't come up in an application search.

"Summit Racing" is their registered trademark.

Not the choice I would have made. It doesn't have a very good power band for the duration. I'd tend toward the XE262, which is p/n 12-238-2.
