is it my distributor or carb?
I'm having trouble with my car dying when it gets hot. When it is cool the car runs good but once it gets hot it will not idel. Driving down the road the car runs good but as soon as I push in the clutch it dies. I have a 625 road deamon carb and I also have a older style HEI with msd internals and it is connected to a 6al box. I'm not sure if it needs jetted or if there is something wrong with my ignition. Any kind of help would be really helpfull!

Are you setting your base idle (and timing) with the car fully warmed up, or did you set it when the car was cold? Does the carb have a functioning choke?

Re: is it my distributor or carb?
The carb doesn't have a choke. I've adjusted it both ways. Today I took the carb apart and found that the primary float was way to low, it wasn't open hardly at all. I adjusted it and I took it down the road and it didn't die. The only thing is now that it acts like it is way slow on timing, and I think my distributor may need recurved. I think I might just buy a procomp dist. instead of messing with recurving my HEI.

I don't know anything about the procomp distributors, but I would recommend the GM Performance HEI (if you really think you need one). The GM HEI comes with a nice mechanical cureve for performance cars and a decent vacuum canister. It also has a good melonized gear, in case you are running a roller cam. I have been less than impresssed with the various MSD distributors I have owned...but they look nice.
Before you jump into a new distributor, get a timing light and see what is going on now. It is always cheaper in the long run to be a mechanic instead of a parts replacer.

Re: is it my distributor or carb?
I think I figured out what was wrong. First off, the distributor only had 25 degrees of total advance, I recurved it and it made the car run a whole lot better. Then I noticed that gas was going through the carb when the car was shut off, the fuel line runs very close to the headers. I wrapped the headers and the fuel line and I think that has fixed my problem. If any one else is having this problem I hope maybe this helps.
