Stumbling in gear
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I am a new poster, but not new to Camaros. Anyways, heres the short and sweet:
1992 RS has 1977 model 350 (stock), 700r4, headers, Performer RPM intake and 1406 Edelbrock (600cfm), nothing more, nothing less.
My question or issue is, the car will idle all day long and I am able to back it in and out of the garage. However, if I try to take it around the block and giving it just slight gas. Spit-pop-spit-pop out of the carb. Ive tried adjusting the accelerator pump, and dang near everything else.
Im fixing to just put a stock cast iron intake and quadrajet on it. Only reason I put the Edelbrock on it in the first place was the q-jet was in need of a rebuild. (this was about 5 years ago by the way)
Thoughts?

Re: Stumbling in gear
Do you guys think it may be over-carbureted? Its just a stock 350, but 600 cfm should be fine, I thought...

Re: Stumbling in gear
Sorry for taking so long to repost.
A couple of years ago the car ran ok, but stumbled at WOT. I tried rejetting the secondaries going rich and lean and it never helped.
I just replaced the edelbrock combo with the factory Q-jet and factory cast iron intake. I just rebuilt the Q-jet and set the float level correctly. Now it will start off pretty good, but when you try to kick it down, it will stumble and backfire through the carb. I tried a few tricks to figure out if its too lean or too rich; like disconnecting the accelerator pump and kicking it down to see if its too rich of a mixture. But it continues to act the same.
I have checked for vacuum leaks also. Initial timing is set at 10* BTC with all vacuum ports plugged.
One wierd thing I have noticed is that the "ported" vacuum port continues to pull vacuum at idle. It's not supposed to do that until the front blades begin to open right? Im thinking this may be the issue because it pulls the timing up to about 20* at idle.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. BTW, I have searched the net all over and have not found anything relevant to my issue.
thanks, john

Re: Stumbling in gear
No Travis, its not a CCC. Motor is a 77 model, carb is a 77 model. Carb number is 17057204 0430.
I have most of the quirks out of it so far, but it is drinking gas pretty good. I have just put 200 miles on the car since I got it back running. Also, I need to set the idle mixture because she is running pretty healthy at idle.
Im thinking I need to take the carb off and check to see if the bowl is leaking where the soldered plugs are. I say this because it acts like its flooded sometimes when I first fire it up, but after shes warm, the starter hardly has time to hit the flywheel and its started.
We have had some pretty cold mornings the past 2 days (25*-30*) and it starts pretty dang good with just 3 pumps and feather it a bit until it gets going. (about 15 seconds or so)
Thanks for the info so far guys!
