Choke Light and Alternator??
'84, 305, ccc rochesty, m5
So I was driving my cam today and it was probably like 85 degrees out. It started up fine and drove fine fully warmed up. Then after like 30 minutes of driving the voltage meter jumped at like 15 and dropped to like 13.
During the amidst of this, the choke light was coming on and off intermittently at like a stop light and then act completely okay at the next stop light.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the carburetor or not, but rather a battery/alternator problem.
Has anyone ever experienced this?

Re: Choke Light and Alternator??
It is an alternator problem, not a "Choke" or battery one.
Yes it is quite common.
Be sure the belt is tight.

Re: Choke Light and Alternator??
Well last night after I posted this, I drove it home barely. The rpms needed to be 2000 or higher, otherwise the system would kind of surge down low.
Once I got home I popped the hood and the alternator was almost on fire. It was extremely hot (in comparison to the thermostat hose line). Anyway, I took the alternator to the auto parts store today and the DC voltage test failed. I then just replaced the voltage regulator and put it all back together. I'll find out tomorrow if it helped.
So much about the choke light...
Ohwell..this thread might get moved. :X

Re: Choke Light and Alternator??
The choke light is tied in line with the alternator, so yes. if you have an alternator problem, your choke light will come on.

Since only the carb'd cars had a "choke" light, we'll keep it here in the Carburetor forum.
