Boring out a carburetor?

Has anyone ever done this. Is it worth it. If so how would I find a place that does it. You see I have a old 1405 edelbrock not in use for along time. and instead of bying a 700 cfm. I person I know told me you can bore out a carb? I would like to put that carb back to use instead of it collecting dust till I throw it away. This carb needs rebuilt anyways. So I thought I would get some options from the best sources I know. Thanks All replys will be take into consideration.

Re: Boring out a carburetor?

The throttle bores are only one factor in the carb's flow rating, and not even the most important one. Much of it is determined by the venturi diameter, which can not be altered. Holley guys have aftermarket main bodies that they can install to increase CFM but there is no such option for Edelbrock carbs.

Although IIRC in the Edelbrock, the only factor affecting the CFM rating is the throttle bore size, the P/Ns for the boosters are otherwise the same. The body is monolithic though, so you'd have to change the whole thing anyway to change the bore.

Re: Boring out a carburetor?

if you are interested, i have a edelbroke 750 in the garage that i will never use. Its a few years old, but does have much use. its missing a clip for the sendary linkage, but the body and everything else is there and in great shape. If you want it for a steal, PM me.
