Sending Carb for rebuild.. Just want to verify before I do...
I've been having problems and have attributed them to the carburetor. I called my local GM dealer for some info and what they told me was that the 1987 Trans Am had 2 types of carburetors (model numbers 17087306, and 17087130). The model number on my carb is 17084201. Decode basically tells me that the difference between the carb I have and the ones that were meant for the car is that:
1. The carburetor was built in 84, not 87
2. The carburetor was meant for a manual transmission, I have an automatic
I notice that I can't have my ECM hooked up, or the car will stall (as well as many other performance based issues). Is rebuilding this carburetor a mistake, and should I instead look at buying the correct carburetor? Or since they're both E4ME computer controlled carburetors (based of searching the model numbers here: http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/kits/CK358.htm), will it make much (if any) difference at all?
Any and every quick answer is appreciated! (I'm sending it out tonight)

Yes you should get the correct carb for a automatic transmission. It doesn't mean that it wont work. But if you want the piece of mind get the right one and it will work. If you already have the carb for a manual try it i guess just dont dump to much into a rebuild, It might be a waste of your time.
