Holley 650 DP help...

I've read through the sticky on this thread and did my best to use it's advice, but still to no avail...

Here's the situation: I just bought a Holley 650 DP to replace my Edelbrock 1406 600. I put the carb on last night, hooked up all the fuel line fittings, checked for any leaks, hooked up all the vacuum lines, checked for leaks there, and verified there was no leak around the base gasket or any of the vacuum lines. However, when I blip the throttle from idle, the carb sputters and even backfired once indicating to me either a timing issue or lean condition. I checked the A/F mixture and when I give it gas, it leans out completely and never really recovers. I took out the jets that were in it, 67 on the primary, 73 on the secondary, and threw some bigger ones in just to see if it helped. It did, somewhat, but still leans out when you give it gas, and completely falls on it's face if you give it a lot of gas. I didn't adjust any of the timing, intial timing is at 10 BTDC right now and the vacuum advance is working fine on the dizzy.

I got the car running somewhat and took it down the road and eased into WOT and noticed the car revved up alright, but extremely slowly and felt like it had absolutely no power. The A/F mixture read dead nuts "Stoich" and never richened up, and of course leaned out before it accellerated.

Also, I threw my Edelbrock back on out of frustration and noticed that the top end on the Eddy now is very limited and feels like it has no power... this engine is new and has 1000 miles on it and was running great before I tried to replace the Eddy.

That said, I'm new to Holley's. Could someone help me out on what might be causing this?

Re: Holley 650 DP help...

As it now seems to be happening with either carb, I'd look at the fuel supply.
