Holley 750 Vs. Edelbrock 750

In short, did some searching and am having trouble finding my answer(s)
So here goes...

Buttoning up my 357:

Eagle 3.48 crank
Eagle SIR forged H-beams
Speed Pro forged pistons (p/n: ZL2256F40)
Comp XFI 216/223 .493/.499 113 LSA
Comp Lifters
Summit billet DR timing chain
Sportman II heads
Weiand intake

Car is an Auto and will have a built 700-R4 with a 3k ACT converter. Eventually it'll have the 3:23's and the posi installed as well.

This car is going to be my street/strip ride some track times if time permits. All accesosries deleted (A/C, P/S) crank windows, manual locks & mirrors, no power seats etc.

Q: I have a low mileage Edelbrock 750 waiting to go on, What kinda of power (HP, more importantly TQ) and I leaving on the table? (assuming the carb is maxed out as far a performance for this application)??

Q: Would it be worth the money to buy a Holley 750 DP to replace the edelbrock?

Q: What makes the holley design that much more efficient over the edelbrock/carter design?

Sorry for rambling just trying to understand the clear preference for Holley's over edelbrock's

Thanks!!!

Rob

Re: Holley 750 Vs. Edelbrock 750

I currently have a holley and I'm looking to buy an edelbrock. I'm not sure about numbers but I can tell you from experience that I'm constintly have to tune it. Edelbrocks stay on point. Just to put my two cents in. Good luck.

If you're constantly tuning your Holley, it ain't the carb's fault.

Whether it would be "worth the money" to buy a Holley DP is a call only you can make.

Re: Holley 750 Vs. Edelbrock 750

Worth the monry to me would be 15 ft/lb of torque or more. That would be worth the extra cash to buy. Im just curious as to what holley, a 750 cfm DP or a 770cfm Street Avenger??

Thanks!

Re: Holley 750 Vs. Edelbrock 750

Just my 2 cents, but with a tall rear gear (3.23,3.42) I'd recommend the vacuum secondary Avenger. You can tune the rear barrels to come in when the car wants it and it looks like you have an automatic, so the DP might load it up when you first put your foot in it. I usually use a DP on a car with a standard tranny and low (3.73,4.11,4.56) rear gear. Just my opinion tho'. In a recent "experiment", a buddy of mine with a GTO (4 speed car) took his Edlebrock off and swapped on my 800 DP Holley and thought that he had a new motor by the difference in performance. The Holley made that thing scoot. He had a few people tell him he was over carburating it, but the proof was in the pudding, it was amazingly faster, he didn't want to give me back my 800!!! LOL

Topless, Thanks for your input. I appreciate real world claims with reasoning, keeping in mind gears etc. I think i may shop around a street avenger. I heard good things about them...

Re: Holley 750 Vs. Edelbrock 750

As of this moment there is a 770 on Ebay, #110418913768, it doesn't have the electric choke COVER on it (some fool took it off), but there is a cover for sale also. I think the carb was starting at $149.00 + s/h and the cover is there if you search "street avenger", and I think it was $15.99 + s/h. I bought mine a year ago, actually on accident, when I put in a bid for $100 and WON! Wife wasn't very happy, but I sure was. Those new carbs have anti-backfire devices (check ball and seat) installed into the base plate so you don't have to worry about blowing a power valve if it ever belches back. You might check it out, I think there were 3 days left on it and currently no bids. FYI - Marty

The gear doesn't have anything to do with DP vs. VS. Stall speed does, and all you need to do is keep RPMs above the "bog" point of a WOT DP.

A 750 DP on a 350 is good above about 1300 RPMs.
