An idea... electronic distributor on a carb?
i want to state that i have an 85Z28 with a LG4, and its CANADIAN. meaning NON COMPUTER CONTROLLED CARB. My setup right now is completely stock.
I use my car as a daily driver and the drivability on cold canadian mornings is usually quite poor, alot of hesitation, sometimes stalling, etc...
Now i find my car is quite picky with timing, it rathers a more advanced time if its colder and a more retarded one if its warmer (i think). All i know is i can never keep it happy at all times.
So i had an idea, If i could somehow set up a distrib from a TBI or TPI, get a knock sensor and an ecm in the car. then... if im understanding this correctly, i could achieve near perfect timing.. all the time. I dont want to switch to a CCC but i think a distributor liek that would improve driveability, performance, and mpg.
so am i understanding this correctly?
do you think its a good idea?
has it been done before?
and do you think it would work?

I'd imagine it possible, though I don't know the exact details. This is done in the aftermarket where they use a non-computer carb and the LS1 ignition system. It is better and possibly easier to go this route, but also probably more costly with aftermarket parts instead of stock parts.

Installation of the computer controlled dist would also require installation of the supporting ECM along with the VAC sensor and throttle position sensor (other sensors could be shorted or jumped-like the CTS). The system can work without the ccc-qjet as some have replaced the ccc-dist with a mechanical then fashioned an alternate method of engaging the TPS. Seems like an inordinate amount of work to go your way though.
