Swap 305 TPI for Carb'd 400 SBC. Can I use a fuel Pressure Regulator?
Im swapping in a Carb'd 400 SBC in place of the stock 305 TPI and I'd perfer not to change my fuel pump from stock. Im not sure exactly what the psi is coming stock (1987 Camaro IROC-Z 305 TPI) fuel pump. Is it possible to run a fuel pressure regulator to drop the psi down to 4 - 8 somewhere?? Or is this giong to result in problems for the old fuel pump or the 800 cfm modified quadrajet im going to use? Open to suggestions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

TPI to Carb Swap.Using Fuel pressure regulator instead of changing my fuel pump?
Hey just wondering if a fuel pressure regulator is a good substitute in place of swapping in a fuel pump designed for carb'd engines. The car was a 1987 IROC 305 TPI and is now going to be a carb'd 400 sbc. I don't want to go to the trouble of changing out my old fuel pump and am hoping i can just install a fuel pressure regulator and dial it down to the appropriate pressure for my 800 cfm modified quadrajet. Is this giong to work out or is it just going to cause me problems?

It's done all the time. Usually discussed on the Carburetor forum.
You do need the more expensive return-type regulator that controls pressure by increasing or decreasing the return flow to the tank. The normal $20 dead-head reg will burn the pump out.
Was this a TBI or TPI car?

Ah, I see you did post on the Carburetor forum.
Let's do a little merge here.
And, the TPI pump should be fine.
