H/C setup for lg4?

Just wondering what a good heads/cam setup would go good for an lg4 build. Motor is fairly fresh. Have an edelbrock preformer rpm intake to go with it.

An LG4 is a 305, correct? If so, head choices are kinda limited. I was going to get the factory TPI corvette aluminum heads for mine back in the day and do some porting to them. Those, and the world products torquer S/R's are about your only choices. A cam with about .470-.480 lift will prob be good for that set up too.

Re: H/C setup for lg4?

honestly your stock heads are better than you probably think!
with just a cam similar to the one above, stock heads and a little tuning you'd
have more than ample power for pretty much anything

sorry been a long day i thought i saw lq4

The stock heads are fine. A little port clean-up, 1.94" intake valves, cut the guides for positive-type stem seals, screw-in studs, new springs, good to go.

Cam will require higher stall converter if auto. A Comp XE268 or XE274 (assuming flat tappet) would match the RPM intake well.

If it is '84-earlier, it will have dished pistons and low compression. Not a good match for performance. If that's the case, stick to no bigger than the XE268.

Re: H/C setup for lg4?

I have used positive OEM type fel pro valve stem seals on 081/416 305 heads without cutting the guides, and with 0.480" lift, no clearance problems. If you make sure the positive seal is seated all the way there was more than enough seal to retainer clearance.

Re: H/C setup for lg4?

Take it from me, going H & C on a stock LG4 is a waste of time, even with every bolt on part. Better off going to a 350 roller motor where the larger bore will allow better heads to breathe.

I wouldn't go that far. As long as you don't get any deeper into the engine than heads & cam, and support them with upgraded exhaust, you'll go faster for the same money than you will with a 350. After all, if you get a 350, you'll still have to do heads, cam, and exhaust.

ohoneWS6, exactly what do you mean by the engine being "fairly fresh"?

Re: H/C setup for lg4?

I used to hand it to L98 cars all day with my old 305. Miss that engine sometimes, haha. I used a Comp cams .464, .470 lift FI cam. Don't know the part number, but with my stock heads, headers and exhaust I made 220RWHP, and 280 torque. Throw a set of heads on that and your prob around 260 RWHP, and I could have gone a little bigger with a cam, so when it's all said and done, you could probably make almost 300 to the wheels if you choose your set up right.
