Carb pop?

Hey guys Ive got a 800 cfm edelbrock carb with the rpm airgap intake msd ignition and a few other things, but the point is the car was running great up until a few days ago when it started to pop out the carb not a backfire just a quiet pop while driving and now its getting worse. I checked to see if the seal was bad but thats a no go, Tryed timing and I checked my fuel pressure, which it bounces around but its between 5-6 psi. And goes to about 6-7 after I give it some gas but it only pops when I give it gas it idles great and if Im careful about how much gas I give it while driving it only pops alittle but if I stomp on it it gets way worse. I dont know why its doing this Ive run this setup no problems for the past 7 months now and I dont know whats going on (its a 400cid motor) The plugs didnt tell me anything btw they where beautiful but I replaced them anyway and it still is no go. Could it be bad gas?

Re: Carb pop?

When you stomp on it is it only one POP or POP POP POP POP POP POP until you left off the gas?

Re: Carb pop?

It will go pop pop pop ect. some small but if i get on harder it can get louder until I let off to a certain point (not quite all the way off the gas but close to it) so its hard to get it up to speed but once its there it pops every once and awhile but not nearly as bad.

Does your vacuum gage jump around at idle? Might want to do a compression check, could be leaking intake valves.

Re: Carb pop?

Not a carb problem.

Try adjusting the rockers. A VERY loose exhaust one will do that. Pay attention to them as you adjust them; if one exhaust is moving MUCH less than the others, then it's a rolled cam lobe.

If all the valves seem to move about the same amount and they all adjust normally, and it still does it after the adjustment, do a compression test. You'll be looking for 2 adjacent cyls with low (like, near zero) readings.

Re: Carb pop?

Ok well its way too late for me to jump out and do a compression test that and I really dont have the tools for one, but I will try adjusting the rocker arms and see if that fixes the problem, I'm really hoping its nothing serious. But assuming it is the cam shouldnt I notice it even at idle and note that the preformance of the car hasnt noticably changed (haven't tryed WOT because Im nervous about screwing up the car) but I will try the compression it really does sound like a valve not being closed all the way maybe.
