84 s/e bird is it c.c. carb?

just wondering. my car tends to be hard to start, gotta pump the gas a bit, then it likes to idle high and flooring it doesnt always make it go down from 2k rpm to where it should be. seems like the secondaries were stuck too i unstuck them. but i suspect theres a tab near the choke thats bent/messed with. dont know any help is appreciated, thanks in advance guys

Unless it was an LG4 originally delivered in Canada, it is CC.

The secondary lock-out is a function of the choke. When the engine warms up and the choke opens, the lock-out should be disengaged. Somehow, that lock-out gets left off when some of these carbs are rebuilt. . .

is it c.c. carb?
Dunno... can't see it very well in the pic.

It was originally, if it was a US car.

Sounds fairly normal to me, for a carbed car when cold. Normal start procedure:

1. Pump the gas pedal SLOWLY, all the way to the floor, a couple of times
2. Take foot off of gas pedal
3. Turn key
4. Wait 5 seconds or so after engine starts, until it is running smoothly
5. Tap gas pedal; idle should come partway down
6. Choke should disengage completely and idle return to normal within about 4-5 minutes

Note that at no time after starting the car should the driver "floor" the gas, as far as affecting choke operation. This might be OK for other reasons; but not anything having to do with the choke system.

People mess savagely with the choke system on carbs, from not understanding how it works or what it does or how it's supposed to act, and have done so since automatic chokes were first introduced. I don't understand why. (not that I understand why stupid people do just about any of those wonderful things that stupid people do; but that's a whole other matter) It's impossible from your description to tell what might have happened to it. Normally, that big nut thing that goes between the steering wheel and the driver's seat, works its way loose and bangs around under the hood, and hacks and bends and adjsusts on all sorts of things; and it can be VERY difficult to go in behind it and figure out exactly what happened. Best to just learn how the carb is supposed to work, and take it all apart and put it back together like it belongs, thereby erasing whatever damage the large nut did, at which point it will work right again.

Re: 84 s/e bird is it c.c. carb?

it starts hard when warm. like i dont usally start it in the morning but when i leave the house around noon its like a cold morning start. the rest of the day is easy as long as it doesnt sit a long time. tapping the gas doesnt make the idle go down. not like it should.
whats the best cleaner in a bottle to run in my gas to clean up my car without taking it apart. im sure its filthy inside, i want a easier time starting it and smoother idle. should i remove the lock out thing from the choke? i think thats whats bent ill take a pic. or if some one has a pic of a unmolested carb the same as my rochester that shows all the links n stuff that would be awesome

Absolutely NOT.
the best cleaner in a bottle
Iunno.... Budweiser? Jack Black? Merlot? Lots of em are pretty good....

As far as repairing the carb though, it doesn't come from a bottle; it comes from a box. Like this http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...pe=428&PTSet=A Don't know of anything that comes in a bottle that has much effect on carbs, their liver works too fast I guess.
