700R4 lockup after carb swap?
Ok I don't know if this is ment to go here but since it is involving a carb swap and vacume I will post it here, I have the 700R4 and i have a NON-CC setup, it was converted to NON-CC before i got the car and i want to know if the trans was setup properly because it has what looks like a custom made Throttle and T.V cable bracket and it has a rev spike when shifting from 3rd to 4th.
The computer is behind the kick pnl but i have a Holley-600, a NON-CC Distributor and the sensor on the exhaust is just unpluged (nothing there to plug into) and 1 hacked up wiring loom.
I also have 2 vacuum diaphragms/switches (that was not hooked up when i go it) I have hooked up 1 to constant vac and one to ported vac (only 2 vac ports I had free).

ah cool, I was just wondering what dose the lockup do and what dose it feel like if it is not locking up, like I said the vacume lines were not hooked up when i got it.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
if the vac lines weren't hooked up (or if you just unplugged the connector to the tranny) it will rev higher. the tranny wired this way will lock up the torque convertor it saves you some gas (better mileage) no performance gains.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
Locking the converter will make the tranny run slightly cooler at highway speeds, but not having it lock won't hurt it, just reduces mileage.
Your biggest concern is the TV cable, and it's proper geometry, adjustment, and function. If you have decent feeling shifting at normal shift points, it should be set fairly well - after driving one set good, you can really tell when it's wrong (mine "popped" itself too loose one day (bad geometry) and I could really tell).

Re: 700R4 lockup?
its kinda hard to tell with the stage 2 shift kit it slams into gear all the time.
But I recon it is out, the bracket looks hell dodgy/homemade.
I don't evan know if my holley 600's throttle arm (T.V cable hookup point) has the rite geometry for the 700R4's corect operation.

Not having a functioning TCC lock-up will burn up your 3-4 clutch pack. Maybe not right away - mine still worked after several thousand miles - but I've heard reports of within the first 100 miles of a rebuild.
You really should have it working if you're cruising above 45 mph (70 kph) or so.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
I sit on 100kmph every day for about 10 min in either direction (I take the ExpressWay to work and on my way home). i will post up the picture in about 2 hours, ill also monitor what RPM my car is shifting under mild and heavy acceleration on my way home.
i adusted the T.V cable yesterday morning (made it tighter) now it is shifting REAL HARD, i mean like 2X harder than than it was before. My T.V cable dosenot adjust like it sais on the tech info on this forum, the button MUST be held down or it wont move 1 click evan with me pulling hard on the cable.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
ok under light take off to 60KMPH it shifts:
1st to 2nd @ 1,800RPM.
2nd to 3rd @ 2,000RPM.
3rd to 4th @ when I back off the throttle.
Under mild take off to 60KMPH it shifts:
1st to 2nd @ 2,200RPM.
2nd to 3rd @ 2,200RPM.
3rd to 4th @ when I back off the throttle.
I don't realy push past 4,000RPM unless i forget ot look at my tach when im playing :P but I have noticed it dose not shift to 4th unless I back off the trottle, is that normal?
The secondarys are non-funcional, The carbie had a bad vacume leak at the sides of the secondary throttle shaft so since I had locked off the secondarys for fuel econamy I used heat proof silicone to seal off the secondary throttle shaft. Besides the primarys alone pull it to 4,000RPM damn fast and smooth so I don't wory about the power loss atm.

Well that is under normal load I will try a hard take off and see if it shifts 3rd to 4th under load.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
why is that?
If i can get that small bend/kink out of it can i still use it, there is only one place over here that has this part and it is about $90AUD + shipping not to mention is looks like a real pain to remove/replace.

There is one way to adjust the TV cable (let's be clear, it's not a "kickdown" cable, it's a throttle valve cable, with a much more important function than just "kickdown") that will avoid burning out the transmission. All other ways will burn out the transmission.
First, you need to get the geometry right. The stock Holley throttle arm isn't made right to just hook up a stud and attach the TV cable. Get a corrector, such as Summit's SUM-700202.
Next, you depress the cable housing lock button and pull the cable housing back. Then you fully open the throttle (TV cable attached, of course), and the housing will ratchet foward to the correct position. Then you're done.
But, if the geometry ain't right, it ain't gonna work right.

Re: 700R4 lockup?
I call it a kickdown cable and yes I know all about the function of it. depending on the carb model some are fine some are not. on my dbl pumper it was fine. never burnt up anyway. This is a part you will know fast if it isn't correct. looking at your shift points yours is ok. it isn't hard to replace but it does take a little contorsionism on the tranny. price wise if you decide you want to get one just look on ebay I have seen them for around $25 shipped. If you can't get a deal like that just e-mail me and I can get it and ship it to you. I will look around I may have one laying around. Or just switch to Lokar cables. they look alot better and are universal so if you change intakes later this part will be done.
