You can... those air cleaners should fit any carb aside from the dual-feed Holleys. The float adjustment nuts are too tall on those. All other carbs are ok though, far as I know.

I believe the question is whether it will fit under the hood, not whether it will fit on the carb.

The 'Bird L69's had a different type of air cleaner that used the cowl via the hood for the "2nd" source of cool air.

You can stick it on there, sort of; but there are issues.

The snorkels get their air from the headlight pockets. No such thing exists on the Bird nose.

The air cleaner will fit on a dual feed if you get a air cleaner spacer.

That's true for 1983 and 1984 when the "power bulge" cowl hood was used. But that hood was retired after the '84 model year and wasn't brought out of retirement until 1987, when it was used on the Formula.

In 1985, the new TA hood(twin louvers) was flat like the standard hoods, yet L69s were under them. And look at the pic of tsibouky's air cleaner, posted in this section regarding his new L69 car. It's not the same lid as was used with the functional cowl hoods. It's like the lid used on the Z28. Yet his car is a 1985 TA.

So the dual snorkle air cleaner apparently does fit under Firebird hoods. It prolly wasn't as effective on the TA as it was on the Z though, because like was pointed out, the Firebird didn't have the open space from which to draw fresh air like the Camaro did. Similarly, LG4 and TBI engines in Firebirds had single air inlets, and they were also under flat hoods, not cowl hoods.

But regardless, the airflow with the dual snorkle is obviously still much better than with the single inlet air cleaners, no matter which car it is on.

Not if you want it to fit under a factory hood.

His car is hardly factory stock. Who knows what all the previous owner did, considering what is known that came from other cars.

Car: 84 trans am

so wait were the "power bulge" hoods availible on any trans am before 84 then? i thought that was only avalible on formulas, and i did know later model formulas didnt have a functional scoop like the eirlier ones.my 84 TA has a functional scoop hood but i dont know if its original. would modifying the intake for dual side hoses on top of the above air induction work? i dont see where you would route the other hose unless you were to run it down to below the car for a home made ram air.

True, there's no telling what the previous owner did to that car. But the fact remains that it's an '85, which means flat hood. No cowl hoods in '85.

The "power bulge" hood was available from '82-'84. I don't know if they were all functional though, but functional was definitely available throughout that period.

I'd guess you could have the dual plus the top too, but I don't really know. You'd definitely get plenty of air with a set-up like that.
